excellent unit, love mine however the DAC 2 is coming out real soon and as Ric says its supposed to be way better, What I like about the DAC 1 is great slam, reproduces micro detail, does not sound digital.
I have owned this dac for 2+ months now. I use a Pioneer Elite PD65 as a transport and Ricks cable. Sounds great with detail I did not experiance previously. It really seperates instruments in each area of the stage and for the first time I realized that some of the percussions were actually 2-3 seperate instruments. My wife also noticed this improvement and approved this purchase. Its worth the investment.
I just asked Ric to put me on the waiting list I did this just from all the reviews I read (mostly on audioreview.com) He has a money back guarrentee, although i have a feeling I'll never need it.

I have owned a DAC-1A for about 3 months now, and this is the best DAC around for the money ($650.00). I use Ric's DAC and modified Sony Transport as my front-end. I have had to upgrade my preamp and amp on occassion, but not the EVS components. Very detailed, dynamic and transparent. I'm now in the process of having Ric upgrade my DAC 1A to 1B status, until the Dac II is available.
