In general raising the arm increases the treble, lowering it increases the bass. Many prefer the arm perfectly level; some , like Van Den Hul, like it raised at the pivot end so it slants down toward the stylus end. I like it lowered at the pivot end so the it slants UP toward the pivot end. Set it up so that it sounds right to you, there is no absolute standard as each record is liable to be different anyway.
