TO PHIL "ICERAVEN": I say Krell makes the best amps (and I'm NOT ALONE), but I'm not sure which model is the best price/performance value (if there's no limit on the money spent)...not that Brian cared to be that specific in his original question...YOU SEEM TO BE TAKING AN AWFULLY LONG TIME TO DECIDE, SINCE THIS POST IS A YEAR OLD. You have to try for yourself, because there'll never be concensus. JUST TAKE THE PLUNGE, AND STOP LOOKING FOR APPROVAL FROM STRANGERS ALREADY!! I mean, these discussion forums work for specific system aspects, BUT ASKING TO SUGGEST AN ENTIRE SYSTEM IS JUST PLAIN SILLY AND WRONGMINDED! It'll always be a subjective decision by the individual who'll be using the system, and if he's a real audiophile, HE'LL NEVER BE TOTALLY SATISFIED ANYWAY! That's what the hobby is about, THE JOURNEY TO THE MUSIC, not the destination. That's pretty much what ALL HOBBIES are about, "the process". GUYS WHO LOOK TO THEIR DEALERS OR BUDDIES FOR APPROVAL, ESPECIALLY TO SUGGEST AN ENTIRE SYSTEM, ARE TOTAL WUSSES! Use your own ears, or you'll never be happy. I SHOULD POST THE QUESTION: "Is it important to listen to your system, and make your own decisions?" That's about as intelligent as asking what the best solid state amp is...
Kacz, you have stolen the championship for being the biggest blowhard on this site, from me. Looks like you can't take the pressure, though. How old are you, 17?
Incidentally, red-fruit-guy, do you know the guy that built the cylindrical arrayed "full range" ribbon speaker that was footnoted in an issue of HFN&RR about 2 years ago? (That's where I saw it, anyway.) It was a prototype, and he used like four hundred Neodymium magnets. HE WAS FROM NEW ZEALAND. (BTW, my grandparents once vacationed there, it'd probably be a nice place if it weren't for fruit people like you.) Anyhow, it intrigued my speaker design sensibilities. Perhaps you could borrow an Australian Navy friggett, and bring me a pair of those speakers to try...You wouldn't need fuel, just stand on the bow, face backwards, and start talking about whatever you talk about down there (how stupid we yanks are, etc.)...heh heh. G'Day, mate...
Sounds interesting. I couldn't buy one of those speakers right now (if he sells them), but it'd be interesting to converse with him alright.
Who are you, Harry Pearson's wetnurse? He's been wrong on several occasions, what of it? I still like him. Nobody's right all the time, and I admit when I'm wrong...do you? Nordost cabling is very dynamically laid back, and no better in any other way, when compared to MIT's best cables. Pearson just doesn't want to admit that he doesn't like handling heavy network boxes in a system that must change on a daily basis, in order to continue the review process. Doesn't mean they sound better at all. Food for thought...
Canada isn't even a real country, it's just our backyard! My system would handily chew yours up, and spit it out. When God was handing out auditory canals, you couldn't hear his instructions correctly, and bent over instead! It has since become the thing you love doing the most! American audiphiles are convulsing with laughter at your snivelling, pathetic little moronic comments. Mua hah hah hah hah...
The UN is very good at stealing money from the international monetary fund, and wasting it, and then asking for more. It's a post WW II institution that has seen its glory days come and gone.
Got any pictures of your mother naked? Wanna buy some? The only thing that's "little" about me is my tolerance of pieces of garbage like you. I can hear better than you and everyone you've ever met, and I could give a shit what you think about anything. Please eat hot death...
I just meant that my KAV-250a was the best for the money ($2100 used) that I've heard, NOT that it was the best in the world! The Clayton monoblocks probably are better, if you don't need 500 watts/channel into 4 ohms. I'd like to hear the Claytons, and also the Wolcott tube amps, sometime. I would want to compare the Wolcotts in particular to the FPB 350 monoblocks. And please continue your bellyaching about me, there's not nearly enough of that going on already...
