Virtual system revisited

Some time ago the idea of an AudiogoN virtual system was discussed. I recall AudiogoN thinking it was a good idea, and I recall a lot of good discussion. For what ever the reason the idea died and no further discussion has transpired. I'd like to bring a proposal to the table along with a working example.
First off I would propose AudiogoN create a separate category "VIRTUAL SYSTEM" within this category would be a series of sub categories. A) $1500 or less, B) $1500 - $4000, C) $4000 - $9000, D) $9000 - $15,000, E) $15,000 - $40,000 and F) $40,000 and up.
The second part of this proposal is to have the systems built from the existing ads. Any one can start a new system (thread), weather it for fun or trying to help sell their own equipment. Both dealers and individuals are encouraged to participate.
Once a system is proposed anyone can make additional posts within the thread suggesting alternate components that are for sale. I was also thinking it might be helpful to allow someone to recommend a component not presently for sale if it seemed to be the perfect match.
The ultimate idea is to help people who may be trying to buy a piece of equipment or an entire system with the input of all of us. I think this could be an excellent selling tool, and a fun opportunity for guys like me who need to "get a life" to enjoy the hunt and the eventual learning achieved by the process.
The great thing is these virtual systems would remain archived in the category for future reference.
So what do others feel about this?

uhmm, jd, there is a separate virtual sytems section on this site to which many have already contributed. _kelly
Hey Jadem6:

I like this proposal. I sure enough hated that I missed out on that discussion before. It would have made for some interesting dialog had I heard what others had to say, as well as my participating in the discussion. Oh well, to each its own. Well anyway, for the different price points that you have asked for in your post, here are some systems that I would put together if I was to shop as those price points that you have brought up.

Anyway, here goes:

(A). For less than $1,500.00:

Headphones: Sennheiser HD-580 -- $200.00 (from Audio Advisor).

Amplifier: HeadRoom Supreme -- $400.00.

CD Player: Sony CD D-EJ815 CD Walkman -- $150.00.

Total -- $750.00.

(B). From $1,500.00 to $4,000.00:

Speaker System: Vandersteen 2Ce Signatures and Vanderstands (with Cherry or Rosewood endcaps) -- $1,500.00 + $125.00.

Amplifier: Classe CAP-101 -- $1,395.00.

CD Player: NAD S500 -- $1,500.00.

Cables: MITerminator 2 Interconnect and Bi-Wired Speaker Cable -- $80.00 + $200.00.

Total -- $4,675.00 (sorry, went over budget on this one).

(C). From $4,000.00 to $9,000.00:

"My Own System"

Speakers: KEF Reference 102 Bookshelf Monitors with KUBE Equalizer -- $900.00 (back in 1988).

Amplifier: Adcom GFA-545 MkII -- $250.00 (used).

Preamplifier: Adcom GFP-750 -- $1,250.00.

FM Tuner: Magnum Dynalab FT-101 -- $600.00 (used).

CD Player/Changer: JVC XL-M509TN -- $400.00 (back in 1994).

CD Player: Meridian 506.24 -- $2,095.00.

Cables: MITerminator 2 and 3 Interconnects, and MITerminator 2 Speaker Cable -- $80.00 + $45.00 + $125.00.

Total -- $6,000.00 (Approximately).

(D). From $9,000.00 to $15,000.00.

No System. I feel you have to up the ante about another $10K from my system before you can begin to hear any appreciable difference from what you will hear from my own $6,000.00 system.

(E). From $15,000.00 to $40,000.00:

Speakers: Aerial Acoustics 10T -- $3,500.00 (used).

Amplifier: Mark Levinson No. 23 -- $2,500.00 (used).

Preamplifier: Mark Levinson No. 26 -- $2,500.00 (used).

CD Transport/D/A Converter: Wadia WT-2000/Wadia 27ix Decoding Computer -- $2,200.00 (used).

Turntable/Arm/Cartridge: VPI HR-19 Mk III/Graham 2.0/Benz Glider Micro -- $2,000.00 (used... turntable and arm system) + $750.00 (for new cartridge).

Cables: MIT MI-350 Interconnects and MIT MH-750 Speaker Cable -- $750.00 + $1,250.00 (used).

Total -- $13,450.00 + Cables.

(F). From $40,000.00 and up:

See my ultimate "Dream" system on "the Ultimate system? Cost no object?" thread on this board. I posted a "homedinger" of a system there last weekend. If you do everything I have posted about that system, it will run WELL over $100K.

Well Jadem6. Those are the systems I would buy at the various price points in which you have already posted. It would be interested in seeing the creations others can come up with.

Later....

Yes Kelly I know that as I stated in my post. I also stated that the discusions died and I was wondering if it needed a push. AudiogoN had ststed in there own "beta test" post that they were going to roll this out, that being about 45 days ago. The reaction to there post was an off subject discussion on "their" bluebook system that they want us to buy and use for the system creating. I was trying to move forward and again stating I'd like to see it tied to the for sale equipment, which my test system was made from. My assumsion from your post is that you chose not to read this thread and to just comment. Sorry if somehow this is a bother to you. J.D.
Thank-you to Cornfedboy for his help in pointing out that this idea was indeed implamented. I had no idea, so this is maybe the worst post ever. If any of you out there also didn't know of this feature it can be found at the opening page and clicking on "LEARN" you'll find it then. I'd never clicked on that button, all kinds of stuff. Excuse me for wasting the time of all you who knew, and thank-you again Kelly for writting me and helping me learn.
