Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?

I have just acquired a 32 year old JVC/Victor TT-101 DD turntable after having its lesser brother, the TT-81 for the last year.
TT-101
This is one of the great DD designs made at a time when the giant Japanese electronics companies like Technics, Denon, JVC/Victor and Pioneer could pour millions of dollars into 'flagship' models to 'enhance' their lower range models which often sold in the millions.
Because of their complexity however.......if they malfunction.....parts are 'unobtanium'....and they often cannot be repaired.

Halcro, Radicalsteve, in place of these heavy platter mats, why not consider trying a delrin mat. I believe Applied Fidelity has it for sale. If not satisfied with the sonics of the mat, send me a pm then I will discuss a diy one that you will be happy with.
Banquo363, if you reside in the USA, send me a pm at audpulse@aol.com. I may be able to direct you to a fellow that is a great technician and you will not need to mortgage your house for him to look at the tt101. If he can fix it, his charge is very very reasonable.

Do I need to change all three (two of which are hard-wired)❓😫

Henry, Yes.
You are an audiophile and a diy guru.
You started this trend and opened our eyes, so why stop. lol

IMO, it is not in the design architecture, it is in the build. The two motors are fundamentally the same design but the MK3 has been fed growth steroids.

Richard what a good analogy. I thought that was what audiophiles want. The bigger the better.
There may be someone like Chris Kimil in St.louis, Mo, who happens to be the owner of Alpha Tech Electronics. His name is Zaah and the telephone number is 314-645-5250

Peter, can you publish the list for all to see or send me one to audpluse at aol dot com..

Thanks.

On the last one I had to repair a broken coil in the motor, and repair the main bearing, though that was inflicted damage==jpjones3318.

That is my tt101. Since receiving it, I let it run for forty (40) days,24/7, and I am pleased to report that no single issue with the turntable. It is good as new and will not hesitate to recommend JP. Still in the process of making the slate plinth. I have two trials with no success. Maybe I should reach out to Halcro to get a copy of his plinth.
