Vandersteen 2w sub hookup

Hello group,

I have recently purchased a group of Vandys. As a long time fan, thought the deal was too good to pass up.

I have so many questions about hooking up the 2W’s

i do know for sure that there is no crossovers coming with the product. So I will have no w2 or such as a crossover.

My experience is with hooking up subs with LFE. I have none in regards going “old school” hookup methodology.

the main speakers will be vandy 3’s (just 3’s, no 3a or 3a sig). How would I go about incorporating these two subs to go with the 3’s.  I have 2x 7 channel amps. One is running only the LCR. The other is handling the 4 others in bed layer and also the 2 height channels. Want to try and keep the amp section as follows to keep the wattage the same for the LCR.

Any suggestions would be awesome thanks!

As a Vandy owner, please join us on the Vandy forum -just go to the Vandy website and you'll see a dropdown. There you will get all the info you need.

And, Mr. V. will often chime in.

If you don't want to join, then PM John Rutan (audioconnection). He won't steer you wrong, either.

In any case, you do need a pair of crossovers. They are put in between the preamp and amp. So, you need to know the impedance of your amplifier so that you can order the correct crossover value. (Vandy offers set value crossovers, as well as an adjustable crossover-M5-HP. the set value crossovers are a bit less expensive).

This all assumes you have a separate preamp and amp.

If you have an integrated amp, things get a bit more complicated.- which means either posting on the Vandy Forum or PM'ing Johnny R. for the best advice.

Find a used Vandy XO or buying a new one would work

I have a 2 channel and HT mixed use system.
My approach is the two channel with the 2W.
I have yet to add a sub to the HT side, but I have 4 subs to choose from 🤔 Just need to box them up and get a wriggle on.

But I also have a Butt Shaker(TM) (tactile transducer) that I’ll probably to shake out the curry… as the Haus-Boss doesn’t appreciate loud noises.

But she is way better with the Vandy HT system sound, than she was with any of the Klipsch stuff she heard in the shops.

Mixed use systems are some what difficult as are mixed use rooms.
