Is it a bad idea to use a quality DVD player as a surround processor and just use the 6 channel analog outputs? I'm thinking of running it through a Mcintosh C45.
Nothing at all wrong with the idea. The processing has to take place somewhere. No reason why it can't be accomplished just as well inside the DVD player vs. in a pre/pro or HT receiver.
