Ultimate Test Record Question
I have an Analogue Productions Ultimate Test record that I recently used to help me set up my cartridge. Side B, track #4 is a 1 kHz tone that is supposed to be "out of phase." My assumption is that if everything is set up correctly, including speaker positioning, listening position and room acoustics, then this signal should cancel to near null at my listening position. While I could never get a true null, I positioned my speakers and my listening sweet spot to a point whereby this test signal gave the lowest perceived volume. Small movements of my head a few inches in any direction and the 1 kHz test sound was much louder. After doing this, I found that for real music, both analogue and digital, my system sounded much livelier and clearer. Just curious whether I used this track correctly or just happened to find the ideal speaker and listening positions by chance. Hopefully someone who is familiar with this test record can offer an opinion.
