Tyler Acoustics Speakers with the Best Weight

Hi,

I took delivery on a pair of MM5X's earlier this year and I like the sound, especially paired with a CJ 50 WPC tube amp and a 17LS2 preamp.

This is after Magnepan 3.6's and then Thiel CS5i's. I grew up on Large Advents and suppose my idea of bass is via a ten or twelve inch woofer....

However, while I like the sound of the MM5X's, I want more weight to the sound. Piano does not sound heavy enough.

I also think that the soundstage in my listening area is best served by speakers that are not over about 48 to 50 inches tall and that can live with a distance to the front wall of about two feet. Maybe this is a bad assumption....

I am looking for Tyler Acoustics owner (and other) feed back who can share what else I need to think about.

What is the best Tyler Acoustics option?

What other speakers could fill the bill?

Building a completely new system is SO much fun!

Thanks for listening,

Dsper

Hi Dsper!  I used to own some Tyler Acoustics D3mx’s with morel cat 3 tweeters (upgraded tweeters).  Anyhow, you speakers are nice but anything that tyler makes that uses the Seas Excel drivers will be a pretty nice step up in performance all around.  Your speakers use dayton audios nicest drivers but they aren’t at quite the same level as seas excel.  That seas excel tweeter is really awesome.  Just ask Joseph Audio.

Anyhow, whats your budget and do you want a floorstanding speaker or only standmount?

Hi b_limo,

I am thinking like $4-5 grand used.

Can be a monitor or floor stander as long as it can be powered with a 50 WPC tube amp. I think I am done with behemoths that require 300 wpc amp.

I do like the MM5X's but want a more solid, weighty bass, which is why I was thinking of moving up the Tyler Acoustics product line.

Thanks for listening,

Dsper

The current MM5X's use SEAS Excel tweets and midrange. Only the woofers are Dayton,
