Tune of the Day
"Blue Rondo a la Turk" on the Two Generations of Brubeck album. Wow.
There are many fine versions of this tune, but this one gets me dancing, clapping, fist-pounding, whatever, every time....and it's not easy to dance in, what, 9/8? I love tunes that grow, build, develop, and move through changes. This one just picks me up and takes me right along with it. Great melding of jazz and rock idioms, too. It's fun to imagine Dave Brubeck setting the groove and then sitting back to hear where his kids and their friends take it.
You can continue exploring Dave and the kids on Two Generations of Brubeck, "The Great Spirit Made Us All". And Chris Brubeck's rock/jazz band Sky King on "Secret Sauce".
For extra credit, give a "spin" to Chase, "Bochawa" from their last album, Pure Music.
Anyway, that's my two cents today.

OK Guys, I can't take it any longer! I dropped Dawg Yawp on you a few days ago, and NO response? It's DAWG YAWP! A sitar based singing/songwriting duo with deeply introspective lyrics and a quirky delivery. I can't take it! You have to "Throw me a Bone" and provide some kind of feedback. FYI, In case you want to know the Dawg Yawp story, check out the World Cafe Interview below..... http://www.npr.org/sections/world-cafe/2017/01/09/508990230/dawg-yawp-on-world-cafe |

Nutty, U from Cincinnati? Dawg Yawp might resonate a bit more with you because they local. Discovered while working at Taste of Belgium in OTR. The World Cafe Interview is pretty cool if you get a chance to listen. The music is definitely modern folk and it might be not appeal to everyone. But it is new and it is different. And I'm always hearing from people that they want to hear something new and different. We'll here ya go.... |
reubent, I am in Cincinnati, hello neighbor. I checked your links for Dawg Yawp. I gotta say it is different. Not bad even. They are very talented and very unique. Honestly, it's not something that I would normally gravitate towards. And I like a wide range of music. But I'm going to play it again tomorrow. Maybe they will grow on me. Best, N |
