Tube Pre Amp with Digital Amp a No No?

I read that using a tube preamp with a digital amp is really bad news for the amp if you blow a tube, sending a dead short to the amp. Is this true?

I don't think preamp tubes blow nearly as often as amp tubes. Mick from Supratek said tubes should last 10-12K hours-much longer than amp tubes. -Patrick
