Tube Pre-amp Suggestions.

@biwire Van Alstine looks cool, but I would like to stick with a balanced set-up. The Allnic mentioned here is balanced but overbalanced for my checkbook at present!

@yyzsantabarbara Thanks, so not too big on the Freya as others here?             Have you heard Ravens, they don’t seem to offer a pre-amp only?

Tons of great suggestions, thanks to all! Let me take this one step further. I have a DAC that has pre-amp capabilities. It's to my understanding that having a pre-amp (analogue) will sound better than the digital attenuation. If I'm just looking for a volume control, do I need such an elaborate pre-amp or should I even bother and just stick with the DAC?

 space tech lab has many balanced preamps, some of his offerings use power tubes.

These look interesting, thanks. There is not a lot of information about them anywhere, can you elaborate at all? 

@drbarney1 not me captain, I just fried mt power amp when I attempted to make some open baffle speakers...DUH!  A pre-amplifier is WAY beyond my capabilities! How much would you charge to build me one!
