Tonearm DIN question

Wow! That's a real esoteric situation! Interestingly, the DIN on the TT is a REAL DIN. The little ones on tonearm cables these days are not really DIN standard, but rather (according to Jonathan Carr) are something the Japanese developed years ago and somehow came to be called 'DIN' ;--)

I'd bet real green money there are no ready-made adapters, though you could probably find someone to make you one like Purist or Cardas. But it would cost a lot, and you'd be adding another connection in a chain that carries very delicate low level signals.

My first effort would be to contact Audioquest and ask what they'd charge to reterminate your tonearm cable with the same kind of DIN connector that's on your TT. Or you could do it yourself if you're handy w/ a miniature soldering iron. The connectors themselves are readily available from many parts houses.

Thom, if you're talking about modifying the TT (or is it the tonearm itself!) to match the cable, wouldn't it be easier, cheaper and less invasive to reterminate the cable to match the TT. I don't understand your logic, or am I missing something?

Wow James - I was all ready to be shocked that someone actually made such an adaptor, but the item you mention has a "real" mini-DIN (same as a keyboard, mouse or S-video connector ;-) Unfortunately, it's not the same as the "mini-DIN" on a tonearm cable.
