Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Thank you for your question about cabling in my 3.7/Bryston setup. I still use Audioquest Red River like I did in the old system with the 1.5. I know I could do better and on the long run I will upgrade them es well. Any suggestions for my situation? I read about Transparent cables recently. Do you think they are a good idea? Thanks!

Hi, there was an opportunity for some cs 3.7 in my area - and I took it. As a long-time owner of 1.5s they have always been my dream speakers. I knew that my living room situation would not be perfect for them because of the small space and large windows. The room is about 4x4m (12x12ft) but opens up on one side in a larger dining and kitchen area. I'm glad I bought them. Finding the perfect position is tricky and I'm sure sound would improve a tick in a larger space but overall it works out fine. In the end my fear of oversizing was unfounded. Sound is on a whole new level, much closer to a live performance. I enjoy them very much.Have a nice day!

tomthiel - thank you for our interest.
Height of my room is about 7.9 ft (2.4m). The measurement of the part of the room with the speakers is more exactly 12.8 x 13.7 ft. (3.9x4.2m). Speakers are standing on the long side of this room, behind them is a huge glass window. Now there is only a thin curtain seperating the speakers from the glass wall but I'm thinking of adding more sound absorbant blinds. The whole room is larger, it opens up to larger dining and kitchen area on the small side, in total more than triple the size. Changing the position of couch or shelfes is not an option.
Here ist a picture of the situation (with cats:) Any thougths on how I might improve things? Thanks a lot!

jafant - thank you for our welcome note. I'm glad I ve found you all and look forward to take part in the discussion.

thieliste - in the moment I drive the 3.7s with a Bryston 4BSST2, preamp is a Bryston bp25, DAC a Bryston bda3. there are some updates planned in the long run, but I guess I will stick with Bryston.

Thank you for your detailed decription about dsp adjustment with the 3.7s. I knew that would be an option and I've already read about it. I'm using Roon so it is certainly a thing to think about. But I'm just not right there. At first I think about room adjustments like you did. But I guess in the end my way will lead there too. Also I'm in Europe so I guess I will use different service providers. Again - thanks for your insights, very much appreaciated.

Thank you for your valuable insights about my room dimensions. I' relieved that a professional opinion says ,It's not that bad' and will think about further improvents. Symmetrie will stay an issue - there is a book shelf on the one side, open space and dining area on the other. I should have thought about these issues when I planned the living room years ago ...

I did some research on my problem with exposed glass behind the speakers. There are special ultra-heavy, thick "acoustic curtains" I could install very close to the glass. Maybe this is the way to go with this issue. Any thoughts?

Thank you all for your cable recommendations. After buying the 3.7s new purchases will take some time. But I will keep your advice in mind. Another question I have to clarify is whether I will need power conditioning. At the moment I don't have one...

I would be very much interested in the use of an Oppo player togehter with an external DAC with HDMI input (in my case a Brystan BDA 3). Are you by any chance trying to do the same and make use of the HDMI output of the Oppo to route the DSD64-signal to an external DAC?
I see many people on the web who say SACD doesn't make much sense for stereo systems (but only for multi channel..), but I want to try myself...

Thank you very much for your comments on the Oppo player. I am very much looking forward to the details of your comparison between using it as a transport and with DAC. Myself I would of course have to make do with a normal Oppo, without the upgrade you described, which certainly takes it to a new level. Since the drive in the 105 and the less expensive 103 are apparently the same, I would go for the 103 to use as a transport. Let's see.

Hi all,
quick question regarding speaker cables: I could get some used HMS Gran Finale Jubilee for a decent price. They are about 10 years old.
Has anyone experience combining these with Thiel cs3.7? I was actually looking for Straight Wire, as they were recommended here before ...
Amplification is Bryston BP25/Bryston SST2 at the moment.
Any thoughts welcome! Thank you!

@tomthiel thank you for the in-depth analysis of cable options for the 3.7. Morrow sounds interesting but it looks like they are hard to get here in Europe. I think I stick with the idea to look after some Straight Wires. If I buy used ones even the top-tier Straight Wire Crescendo or Serenade are in reach.
