I recently purchased a pair of CS 2.7 that I am running with a peachtree nova 300 and accessing Tidal as a source. I found the highs a little bright and the lows so so. I purchased these pieces used because I was tired of reading and not listening and learning hands on. I should first tell you i'm 52 and just 3 months ago heard for the very first time a legit Audiophile system. What rock have I been under!! I cant believe I haven't done this sooner rang through my head. So from that day I have been trying to educate myself so I do this once and do it right! After a couple months of this dance I decided to just buy a used system that I could at least play with and learn hands on, Will Thiels SS-2 Smart Sub work with the 2.7's? Also I found an available "Filter" for high mids on Ebay for $85 is that a scam? Didn't know rules on dropping a link here. If it could take a little bit of the edge of the high end it would be worth it.

Hi Everyone!!
I joined the AVS forum and posted there but it seems like all the Thiel Heads are here in numbers :) I need some feed back before I make a large mistake and might have made one all ready but you tell me. I am 52 yro and 4 months ago heard the first Audiophile system and can believe I have been under a rock for so looong! I'm hooked hard, so like many of you I started to READ and Read, was to many hours hear on Audiogon. Was very close to purchasing KEF Ref series 2ch/HT then got drank the Vandersteen kool-aid after hearing Quarto & 7's I have quotes from three Vandersteen dealers and was very very close. Then two months ago I told myself this is insane! go get a simple system so i could start playing around with Tidal and other Hi-res sources while i READ MORE I could atleast listen to some music finally! So I marched into Stereo Unlimited and was going to buy a Vandy 3 sig or next model up to use with a SIMPLE Peachtree Nova 300 that had good reviews and was guilt free if i was only going to use for short time. Well sitting there was a pair of Thiel CS 2.7's I ended up buying them a WOW,,,,, I understand Thiels are hard to run, etc etc,,, but this Peachtree is a match!! sounded better than the Vandy Quarto being run with monster VTL mono tubes and VTL pre amp, After 2 months of listening and reading I went on a Thiel hunt, My goal is to have in one room a 2ch/HT ALL Thiel w/atmos and in another room just two channel. For the two channel room I bought CS 3.7 and will run with Peachtree I have already. In other room I bought MCs 1' for center. CS 1.7 for rears, 4 Power point 1.2 for atmos and two SS2 theil subs and will use the CS 2.7's that started this rampage. Sorry for long winded intro post. So the first question is what HT processor and amps to run it? Does any one have first hand running Mcintosh with Thiel? I could only find two thiel subs would you run both in HT/2ch and buy a Rel for 2ch 3.7 room or split one sub in each system? was also going to ad a Bluesound streamer to both systems so I can run 2ch on two systems at once for whole home coverage. Thanks for warm welcome, So cool there are others with similar taste and path. Since my last post a pair of MCS'1s and one of the SS.2 subs showed up! O ya,,,,the other speakers should be here within a week.
Batmanfan thank you for your input, extremely helpful and a shot of confidence this is going to work!! So I have been back to READING this time on AV pre amp processers and amps to drive this THIEL 5.2.4 Home Therter/2channel joy machine. So I'm all over the place and thought I was going all Mac and all in mc161 AV audio processer, a pair of MC 601 monos for mains and a MC 8207 7 ch @ 200 wpc Then I read your post and you were not thrilled with your multi channel. That lead me to my question to all, Has anyone run ATI Amps? they have a few models that go multi channel So I know I want more than 300 wpc for mains for 2ch and the center is extremely important, I was thinking the ATI 6003 a three channel for mains and center. Then go down a model to there 4000 series and have a 4008 made giving me three extra outs, thought it would be better on resale and have room to grow but more for resale. The 4008 is rated at 250 @ 8 and 375 @4 it would run cs1.7 for rears and 4 thiel 1.2 power points for atmos. OR just keep it all the same wpc and get two 6000 series?? Whith Thiel what is going to give me better two channel MAC, Anthem, Marantz, or Theta Casablanca. What about cables if I was trying to save but don't want it them to hold anything back? Power conditioner? I know I'm NEEDY!! and having a ball! just hate making mistakes and selling or trading is no fun. Thank you, Dan ps I cant spell very well so apologize up front,

Hi Ronkent, I have bee reluctant to sell my cs-2.7's but have a small window to up grade to an additional pair of CS-3.7's I am shocked you haven't gotten more attention. It tells me in a whole that most have not heard it correctly. I happened to pay more for my pair than you are asking, Yours look mint also, the pair I have can really pass as new. My plan was to use the 2.7 in a room where they will play double duty in 2 ch/ ht. my plan was going to have 2 SS2 subs support them for both 2ch/ht My gut says buy the 3.7's any way and figure out what to do with the 2.7's ,

I am now hunting down what amps to use and what pre AV processor, I want to get it right the first time! what is best sounding processor on 2ch that has Dolby Atmos etc,, Mac, Casablanca, Anthem, Marantz, Classe etc... IDK on amps what do you all think of ATI 6000 series and also for rear cs1.7 and 4 thiel power point 1.2 is 350 wpc to much?

So Tom I was just applying your formula to a few amps to see which ones would be much higher ration from 8 ohms to 4 ohms and noticed the Mcintosh was 1 to 1 meaning they were the same wpc output for 8 4 or 2. what are your top few choices for thiel? Right now still need ALL electronics for 2ch/HT line up is CS 2.7 left right mains, MCS1 for center, CS 1.7 for rears and 4 Thiel Power plane 1.2's and Two SS2 subs. I have to get this right,,,, way to much to get to this point. While i'm asking about amps my goal is to end up with a system that excels at 2ch with a HT with atmos. Have all the speakers. Hi Dhoff01, I noticed on AVS that you have in your procession what I believe to be Audiophile Nirvana. The CS 3.7 Gibson signed by no one other than Les Paul himself. Congrats, what do you run them with?
Has any one heard anything on Datasat? AV processor and amps? is it a match for all Thiel HT?

Hi All, Tom very interesting project sound like your making serious headway. I need some input, All my speakers are now at the house and getting ready to purchase Electronics, Tom I found some amps that double into 4 ohms. I have a deposit down on a Lyngdorf MP-50 for all Thiel HT/2ch and want to see what you all thought of the PS Audio Steller 700 to run cs 2.7 mains, MCS1 center cs 1.7 rears and 4 power point 1.2's for atmos? Do you think there smaller s300 is good enough for power points? or just go all the same? OR im way off and there no good? also running two SS2 subs in that room. 2nd situation is the room I have 3.7's in I am considering Lyngdorfs TDAI 3400 Will the 400 wpc in 4 ohm be enough? Rep is telling me because it so clean it will be, also running two SS2 there so that might lower some of there hunger? Want to pull trigger today, What do you all think? The bass integration, Room Perfect and sound of preamp sold me,,,, just want to know what the group thought of amps? Thank you Dn |

I have been away and didn't keep up with thread, Wow lots of cool conversations! and the analogy of talking about your kids!! HA so true, loved all the albums everyone shared and really rekindled some music, ! The Doors and the Sound track to Blade runner... oboy what a treat for the Thiels! I also laughed my ass off counting how many Gibson models were in attendance but then cried when I saw what Corvett01 sold his for. Prof had me flashing back to my youth and the days of the Hustle with the Saturday Night Fever. These box's we all share are Thiel Time Machines! For the record I wasn't 100% disco. I remember seeing the Who in Shea Stadium (loudest concert on record) and the Palladium and Studio 54 that same night! Sorry for rambling. Mr Tom Thiel question will this amp work with 2ch/home Theater? CS2.7 as main Msc1 center cs 1.7 rear https://classeaudio.com/ca-5300/ I have left them a few messages asking for 4 ohm 2 etc... So dealer is telling me I need a power conditioners that doesn't limit power, suggesting I buy a Shunyata Venom PS8 and an msp model. Ronkent The PS regenerators I understand holds power in reserve but does it clean it also? Does it make a difference if running tubes or other? Also I am going to step up and try your peruvian T shirts ;) o ya |

Prof Thank you! This is why I asked. I guess your slp-05 isn't plugged into a power conditioner! So that's two thumbs up for the PS power regenerator over the box of snake oil, So it might be some shirts and a p10 from you Ronkent |

Prof I am going to miss your 3.7-2.7 comparisons! My 3.7 which were also purchased through Rob are starting to morph, WOW! I have gone back many times to reread everyone's comments and each time i learn and discover more about these fine instruments and our obsession with them.

Yes I am absolutely smitten with my Thiels and will leave them for my kids one day, but here is the Taboo question what is another speaker you would want to own. Maybe with a diffrent trait? I have found I love hearing the Thiels on diffrent gear and switch back a forth. With that i would love to know what this group would choose as an alternate speaker. Here is list I have been playing with PMC, ATC, Devore, ProAc, Vandersteen.

Hi all it's been some time since I chimed in, I try to have something relevant to bring to the table and will admit i'm flat out intimidated. What other forum has ther own in house designer engineer (Tom Thiel)
I love the idea of creating a list of Thiel friendly amps, especially tube amps as they baffle me with there ability at a fraction of the wpc of Solid state. To the gentleman looking at the large Cary Solid states those are a no go they cant operate in the lower impedance levels our Thiel need. I was told by Cary them selves there SI 300 Intergrated works fantastic on them and is very reasonably priced, It also has one hell of a Pre amp & Dac,
I finally installed my all Thiel HT/2ch room two weeks ago and ended up with a classe 5300for the 2.7 mains, MCS1 center and 1.7 rears, I highly recommend the larger Classe amps, The four power point 1.2 are powered with PS audio mew 700 mono class D. But what brought it all together was a Lyngdorf processor with room perfect and made integrating 2 thiel SS2 subs in stereo up front with the 2.7's in two channel it is the best I have heard them. It also runs an SVS 16 ultra in rear corner in LFE for effects and isn't used for two channel. I digest all my 2 channel music through Tidal, Deezer, Spotify hi res addition and have a blue sound that is utilizing the much better Dac in the Lyngdorf.
I loved the silent back round of the Lyngdorf and the ease of sub integration that I bought there 3400 2ch intergrated for my 3,7;s I couldn't be more pleased, absolutely magic,
I now want to know which of the really large Thiel speakers I would enjoy. Tom what a you hot rodding first? I owe the the members of this thread and look forward to the day i can bring more to the table. There is magic happening with state of the art room/speaker correction combined with true digital amps matched with good Dac and music streamer with tidal MQA files are Nirvana . |

Hi all been enjoying your conversation of the larger Thiels and have been eye balling a pair of cs7 available. In great shape from a notable source but certainly not a deal. I have already decided the 2.7 and 3.7 will never leave my home. What are the top sonic diffrences between cs7 and the 3.7?
Prof i know love your CJ amps do you know anything about the Conrad Johnson Premier 350 - 350 Watt (8 Ohms) Reference SS AMP? Any one else have any experience, would be for possible cs7 or my 3.7

I loved hearing more detail on specifics of upgrades Tom and others? have been working on, very interesting, made me want to pull off one the passive radiators my self and have a look. Wow Prof those 2.7's in birds eye maple are a fantastic deal, I have a question. what others thought of cs6 and where they may differ from the 2.7 & 3.7 that I have and plan to keep forever. I found a pair on ebay link is below. or am I better off grabbing the 2.7 and run them with tube gear which will be different than how I have my existing 2.7 set up. Thank you for your input. Prof, I spent some time writing a response about my speaker situation, what I have, where it's located and why I want more. I woke up and was going to finish my story when I read your post. My wishes are with you and believe you know you have real friends here. Your experience and gift of recall in such detail has helped me find my path through this hobby.
Yes I still have the 2.7 & 3.7 I use the 2.7 in a 26 by 18 Home Theater slash 2 channel listening space. I have started 4 listening spaces and feel this one is complete and whole. it took months to bring together but works just as i had imagined both HT/2ch. Pre amp is Lyngdorf mp 50, Classe CA5300 runs 2.7 mains, MCS1 center (great speaker and wonder why we don't hear about more of them) cs1.7 for rears 4 ps 700 mono amps run the over head power point 1.2 I listen mainly through Tidal, Spotfy+ and have Blue Sound node 2 but use the Dac in Lyngdorf. I enjoy playing multi room and main reason for Blue sound and ease of there dash board.
My second space has a challenge of speaker having to be 16 ft apart or they would sit in the middle of a view window. currently I have 3.7 there a run with Peachtree nova 300 and a Bluesound node,
Third space is my master bed room where I have Lyngdorf 3400 and Blue sound node, again Dac is amazing in Lyngdorf, i went with there matching wall speakers and 2 "border" subs. Lets say the Thiels have spoiled me and was thinking of putting the 3.7 in this space and selling the Lyngdorf speakers, the acoustics in this room are fantastic.
I am assuming the cs6 will do as good or better than 3.7 in over coming my problem with distance between speakers. I planned on using the peachtree to run a system out by pool. so I can get the correct electronics to run cs6, Another question how do the cs 7 compare to 6? there is a pair of those available.

Rob Gillum what he said was new inventory, A pair of 3.7 Gibson Les Paul, pair of CS 2.7 in Amber wood, Pair of cs 1.7 all with Thiel brackets, 2 SS2 subs (one is not new) and 4 power point 1.2's What is the best way to sell these incredible speakers? Thanks, Dan

Hi Everyone, Been awhile since i looked in here mainly because I didn't have a system up and didn't want to think about it. I now have a great room that i have claimed. Finally a dedicated Home Theater 2 channel room. I have everything but amps and wanted to get your opinion on the few i have found, my main concern is the front three which will also be my two channel set up, so there are a couple 3 channel amps and a few 5 channel amps that might work. 1- Mark Levinson 533H

McIntosh MC303 Three Channel 300w in all ohms These are what i can find used the other speakers are easy to find the same brand, except the Dan Dagostino that i would need to get another brand amp I'm running 3.7 for 2 ch/left&right Center MCS1 L&R rear cs1.7 4 atmos power point 1.2 and center surround power plane 1.2 4 SS2 subs Anyone have any preference out of these 5 amps?? I know this isn't everyone's favorite topic. Wiring, I am building an all Thiel home theater. I ordered a big spool of audioquest in the wall two wire 12 gauge it wasn't cheap but didn't break the bank was using just for atmos power point, a pair of high points and as the group decide the terrible 1.7 for rears, all other speaker will have much better wires. They sent me a role of 4 wire 14 gauge and supposedly better quality copper or what ever. Am i better off using two wires to each terminal or just use the one? They told me because of shipping costs i could have it at no charge. suggestions?"
