The Triad has been expanded to a quartet

I have for a very long time suggested audiophiles not sure of what to buy to listen to three brands:

  • Ayre
  • Luxman
  • Pass

My thinking so far was that these would be so distinct that listeners would surely either have a preference, or decide they didn't care at all.  Well to this list I'm adding a fourth.

I want to congratulate McIntosh for having such a distinct sound signature, and being so widely shown that it deserves a place among the amps  I suggest adventurers to listen to.

They are by no means the best or the only amps I think audiophiles should listen to.  Rather, they represent 4 distinct personalities of amplifiers that should be considered. Who are you??  Are you team Ayre?  Team Mc?  Only way to tell is to listen for yourself.

Let me know what YOU think... cause at the end of the day your nears and wallet is what matters.

I would add ARC and  Naim because of the quite different pictures they portray and drop Mac.

The amp and pre I have in my main system at the moment are Mac, so I guess that answers your question.  I haven't heard the others you mention, so I didn't pick the Mac over them.  It was a brand I'd always wanted to try, and it was readily available.
