Does anyone else who runs Japanese vintage receivers hear the same as I do?
That they really do not need to warm up to play at their best. I honestly cannot tell any difference on my Sanyo whether it's fresh power on or been on for hours.
This is very different to my BAT which sounds it's best after a good hour of power on. |
I do not think I have ever owned any Yamaha besides an Rd500LC back in the days of my 2 wheeled madness, that thing was a hoot! Certainly nothing electronic or music related. Back in England, Yamaha tended to be a bit more expensive than majority other Jap stuff. So it was mostly JVC, Akai, Aiwa, Trio and Pioneer, probably the largest Japanese sellers back in the 70,s from my memory. |
Nice looking receiver Frank!
I have to say once I added a FM antenna to the Sanyo the reception on FM stations raised itself to pretty darn sweet all round.
|
Sanyo JCX 2400K is now doing duty in my second system. A whole $50 for a unit that looks pristine and a work of art but more importantly has been serviced and recapped.
Well it was $95 shipping so $145 total.
I am very impressed all round, not an overly warm sound but nicely rounded through all frequencies and plenty powerful.
Averaging just about 22 on volume dial to wind the Monitor Audio 3i to more than respectable levels.
Really nice looking unit, goes very well with old Akai GXC 510D cassette deck in the same system. |
Jetter.
I would say that is a perfect summation indeed.
That is how I would categorise it, i play that system for fun and it is delivering in spades.
|
The vintage sound is obviously not going to be for everyone, likely myself included as a SOLE source of amplification.
However I was suitably impressed enough by what I am hearing for $75 to have created this thread and get some reactions and thoughts moving.
Maybe I get very lucky and got a good one and some great synergy with the little Wharfedale Diamond speakers and the Sansui amp?
|
It appears that a lot of people do indeed like the Sansui sound.
I am not sure I could/would go with a vintage integrated for my main system but duties I have them pressed into works very well so far.
I may hook one up to my Maggie's and feed my Notts table into an sux input just to see how it sounds.
Tbh the Sanyo receiver is built like the proverbial tank, weighs close to 40lb.
Interesting and cheap experience. |
Kosst.
You could be correct on the tough load front but so far I have only tried easy speakers to drive and have been very impressed with what I hear.
One aspect I have liked is the built in mm phono has given a nice warm sound. Sure a dedicated phono stage will dig out some more detail I am sure but for the cost of some of these integrated it is hard to complain.
|
I have never heard one of those Philips integrateds but the looks remind me of the Hegel units.
Quick ebay search shows not many in the USA and a few 240v versions being sold in the UK.
Sounds like a keeper, thank you for sharing!

Good old eBay!
Just picked up a recapped and serviced Sanyo JCX2400k receiver for the grand sum of $50..... Shipping costs more than I paid for it .. Lol.
Now this should be very interesting indeed, these things are overbuilt to say the least. |
Well now you got me thinking guys. I might just take a chance on a d940 with the dpd circuit. I have only ever read good although tbh the looks do not really challenge the golden era of Japanese gear but hey if the price is right and the sound is right......
|
⬆⬆⬆⬆⬆⬆
I would opine it was either the ta-4650 or ta-5650? |
One other possible interesting aspect.
I purchased an Aiwa AD-F780 cassette deck. Inserted into main system and was positively underwhelmed.
Moved it to the " vintage" system and it put a big smile on my face indeed.
I wonder if similar vintage gear is voiced in a similar manner so making them appear to be more compatible together?
|
BluBoxer I cannot edit the thread or title but I made a typo and I did post elsewhere but it is A-2000. Thx
|
Lmao. Sorry my fat fingers. A-2000. Doh!
Now I know it is not from the exact same "golden age" of Sansui amps as some of the ones mentioned here but for $75 shipped I am still deeply impressed. |
Looks like I lucked into a tidy little amp without knowing anything about Sansui at all.
They were not really huge back in the UK, I swore by Trio gear most of the 70,s.
My criteria for buying on eBay was dead simple.
Mm phono input, at least 2 more analog inputs, fully functional and under $100 shipped.
The Sansui was not even my first choice! An old jvc was but due to terrible packing by the seller it arrived damaged and non working so back that went.
The Sansui was just then the next amp that I saw that fitted my exhausting requirements....😂😂😂 |
Glenne.
Glad i am not alone on discounting a lot of golden era speakers.
I firmly believe that area has made huge strides in most cases.
Old cones and surrounds and crossovers to some extent , just do not age gracefully.
|
I guess I was more getting at the seeming fact that there is a lot of love and while sites dedicated to Japanese tape decks, DD turntables, tuners etc.
But I have never heard anybody suggest to look at or buy a vintage integrated. Or is it just me? |
Depends on your view of a " fortune". When you consider $500 to $1000 is small change for a halfway decent modern integrated with a built in mm phono then they still could be considered as good buys. |
