In my opinion, the speaker is by far the most important part of the audio system. After all, it is the only part you hear. OK, the other stuff really matters a lot, but without a great speaker... No go.
I am a bit 'speaker-obsessed' I guess, and now I am wondering: What are the best speakers you have ever heard, and what made them the best?
Have not read the whole 14 pages so I don't knoe if mentioned, but I heard a couple of MBL speakers (driven by MBL gear) recently and I doubt anything can sound that "real".
My Wilson Alexandria's with Audioquest Everest and Sky interconnects driven by SH-833 Monoblocks and my 27 watt Ongaku amp, 20 pounds of silver baby. May upgrade the cables though.
Price no object: Heard the MBL Radialstrahler 111E at the HK Hi-Fi show last year and they are definitely the best I've heard. They need a big room and an even bigger wallet though.
Keeping feet on the ground (barely): ATC SCM100 (Active). Possibly the best midrange I've ever heard.
