The best speaker you ever heard?

In my opinion, the speaker is by far the most important part of the audio system. After all, it is the only part you hear. OK, the other stuff really matters a lot, but without a great speaker... No go.

I am a bit 'speaker-obsessed' I guess, and now I am wondering: What are the best speakers you have ever heard, and what made them the best?

I have owned just about every top of the line speaker but without doubt the single best speaker I have ever heard is the Wilson X-2 Alexandria. You can have a look at mine

"My Wilson Alexandria's with Audioquest Everest and Sky interconnects driven by SH-833 Monoblocks and my 27 watt Ongaku amp, 20 pounds of silver baby. May upgrade the cables though."

I do agree about the X-2's. It is the best speaker I have ever owned. I also use SET (Lamm ML 2.1 at 18 wpc)

Consider Valhalla cabling and then you will have something even more special.

Not sure if it was a typo BUT there never was a Wilson Grand Slamm (proper spelling) VII. Prior to my X-2's I owned the latest version of the Slamm which was X-1 Series III which was pretty spectacular but not in the league of the X-2. Once the X-2 came into production the X-1 was discontinued because for the money the MAXX series II was just such a better speaker for 1/2 the price. For those who kept their X-1's Wilson did make available a Series V upgrade (no Series IV because of Asian belief that number 4 is an unlucky number). Gerry you have stood me up several times for a listening audition. I still want to meet you

ill say this, my wilsons are the best sounding speakers around but do tend to eat amps wires components enough electricity to heat Manhattan. These babys are just plain thirsty. the next big purchase is a pair of audio research monoblocks. Anybody out there push wilsons with tubes?

I do and have done such with my X-1 Series lll, X-2 series l and now my X-2 series ll

Initially I was using Audio Research Ref 600 Mk lll, then Lamm ML 2.1 and now thenLamm ML 3 Signature

I will never go back to SS with my Wilson's

YMMV
