The best speaker you ever heard?

In my opinion, the speaker is by far the most important part of the audio system. After all, it is the only part you hear. OK, the other stuff really matters a lot, but without a great speaker... No go.

I am a bit 'speaker-obsessed' I guess, and now I am wondering: What are the best speakers you have ever heard, and what made them the best?

Beveridge 2SW2 (coherency), Hill Plasmatronics (holographic imaging), Rogers LS3/5a - 15 ohm variety (my first foray, mid-late 70's, into high-end), mbl 101E (great system synergy in all mbl reference rig) and Bev Model III's (my current transducer).
Since 2008...YG Acoustics Anat Reference II/FM Acoustics combo, Classic Audio T-1/Atma-Sphere combo - all experienced at RMAF '09.

DALI MegaLine III/VTL combo heard at Albert Porter's house.
Cocoabaroque,

I remember a high school friend's family, cira 1973, had the AR 10 Pi's...man, they were COOL speakers back in the day :-)

Brad,

Welcome to the AudiogoN universe :-)

I've listened to ATC SCM150ASL Pros in L.A. (Charlie Bolois is my Studer tech extraordinaire!)

I've heard Hill Plasmatronics and own Beveridge Model II's, Model III's, and Rogers LS3/5A's. Dali MegaLine III's are my current reference loudspeaker.

Your comments are salient and observations are not hyperbole.

Best regards,

Sam

I think the last time I heard Bose 901's were at a Pacific Stereo in San Diego.

I dug 'em! Not quite sure if I was still in high school or perhaps, had begun college; however, I do recall how differently the sound was presented compared to my friend's family's AR 10 Pi's :-)

EQ? Oh, yeah...they needed them - lol. But, the sound was enveloping!

You know, it would be fun listening to them again, I think :-)

Vbr,
Sam
