that first watt in a PP amp

I am familiar with the importance of the first watt with a SET amp but was curious as to that importance with a PP amp .

Also , does the quality of the signal decrease as more power is applied (volume turned up ) with a PP amp as it does with a SET amp .

This is what I had feared . I am trying to find a high efficiency speaker to later pair with an SET amp . Taking one step at time I would have to use the new speaker with my current PP amp for a while . While I do 'kick out the jams' I also listen at more moderate levels . Thank you and Happy New Year !
