Looks like Orem Utah is on the west side of the continental divide. If the cones are so sensitive that a vacuum can remove the dent then maybe the pressure change during transit across the divide is enough. Think of that shampoo bottle after a flight.
Tekton Double Impacts
Anybody out there heard these??
I have dedicated audio room 14.5x20.5x9 ft. Currently have Marantz Reference CD/Intergrated paired to Magnepan 1.7's with REL T-7 subs. For the vast majority of music I love this system. The only nit pick is that it is lacking/limited in covering say below 35 hz or so. For the first time actually buzzed the panel with an organ sacd. Bummer. Thought of upgrading subs to rythmicks but then I will need to high pass the 1.7's. Really don't want to deal with that approach.
Enter the Double Impacts. Many interesting things here. Would certainly have a different set of strengths here. Dynamics, claimed bottom octave coverage in one package, suspect a good match to current electronics.
I've read all the threads here so we do not need to rehash that. Just wondering if others out there have FIRST HAND experience with these or other Tekton speakers
Thanks.

I too hve been concerned about the price going up and hopefully this thread hasn't given him the idea to act sooner rather than later. :) If you go about 9 or 10 posts down on the Tekton Facebook page, there is a post with two pics of the DIs. A little over half way down, Eric made the following comment: $3K pair... inevitably it will go up though. That was January. Seriously hoping for funding approval from spousal unit before the inevitavble happens. |
@david_ten I have already picked my color in the event it ever happens. There is a post on the Tekton FB page of a DI in a color called spanish tile. The nicest I have seen yet. Not sure if it is an automotive color or an upcharge color, but here's a pic: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10208069651727928&set=p.10208069651727928&type=3 |
On Friday I pulled the trigger on a pair of upgraded DIs and Herbies gliders. Got the shipping notice today and they're scheduled for a Thursday delivery. I was not expecting it that fast, especially for a specialty color (not the expensive automotive color though). Eric said he was going to the store on Sat to get the paint and would have it shipped by Tuesday. He promised grills would be in tow as well. They should look like this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10208069651727928&set=p.10208069651727928&type=3&theater I was happy to hear Eric was using Parsound for his RMAF demos. I have a Halo A21 so that made me smile. Does anyone know if I need to be home to sign for these? I don't really want to take the day off while I wait, and then find out they are not arriving until Friday :( |
Regarding the 1812s, this is from the Tekton Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1155318634486153&id=238064226211603 There's a post on the Tekton site with a pic of it being used by a band: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1050156538335697&id=238064226211603 |
I’m considering the LTA MicroZOTL but had a few questions. I’m hoping those who have heard or own the MZ2 can help. I am torn between getting the PSU upgrade. It’s a lot ($600). Is anyone using it with the stock PSU? How much of a SQ upgrade do you think the LPS+ is? Do you think it’s worth it? I’m also a little confused on the output impedance. There was a discussion a couple pages back about the output impedance of 2 ohm for the MZ2 and 1.8 ohm for the Frankenstein. But the Frank is an amp. I associate output impedance with the pre and input impedance with the amp. Is the output impedance of the MZ2 amp 2 ohms? Or is the 2 ohm value for pre? I will be mating this with a Halo A21 with 33Kohm input impedance. I also happen to be lusting over the Aric Audio Transcend pre and the Don Sachs pre. Right now LTA is having 10% off through Dec 4. Probably could through a dart and not go wrong. I would also like to thank all those who have contributed to this thread. I have learned much and never would have found all these game-changing/price-competitive technologies. Thanks. |
@bullitt5094 Thanks for the feedback. That’s a good idea about having the extra PSU if I go the cheaper route up front. @mac48025 Thanks, I looked up the Vinnie Rossi and it’s looks like a great piece of equipment. A little disappointed to hear about the hum though, especially with the upgraded PSU. Was the PSU and MZ close to the amp? |
Just pulled the trigger on the MZ2. Went with the stock PSU, which I can upgrade to later for the same price. Plus, according to Mark, the Absolute Sound and Stereophile reviews were based on the stock PSU. It will replace a Rotel RC-980BX (my first pre), which I purchased in '94. Should be a massive difference and let my A21 and DIs shine. |
Wondering if the DIs are too big for your room? Paul McGowan says probably not. http://www.psaudio.com/askpaul/big-speakers-in-small-rooms/ |
The unthinkable has happened! My 3-week old MZ2 just bit the dust. I'm hoping someone here can help. I had been burning in new CT GE ICs for about 25 hours when I noticed there was no longer sound from the basement. I did some troubleshooting and everything points to the MZ2. I have never had tube equipment before so maybe it's something simple? Music plays from my DAC (used as pre) to my amp but not when the MZ2 is in the loop. No sound through headphones either. Tried all three inputs and nada. I have the stock LPS and the power switch light is red and the MZ2 turns on, just no sound reaching any outputs. All equipment is connected to a Brick Wall for surge protection so I'm sure an electrical surge was not the issue. I thought I would ask here first before contacting LTA. Unfortunately it's a holiday weekend. Was really looking forward breaking in these new CT GEs as well as two new power cords. The MZ2 is a much better pre than my DAC. |
