Tekton Double Impacts

Anybody out there heard these??

I have dedicated audio room 14.5x20.5x9 ft.  Currently have Marantz Reference CD/Intergrated paired to Magnepan 1.7's with REL T-7 subs.  For the vast majority of music I love this system.  The only nit pick is that it is lacking/limited in covering say below 35 hz or so.  For the first time actually buzzed the panel with an organ sacd. Bummer.  Thought of upgrading subs to rythmicks but then I will need to high pass the 1.7's.  Really don't want to deal with that approach.

Enter the Double Impacts.  Many interesting things here.  Would certainly have a different set of strengths here.  Dynamics, claimed bottom octave coverage in one package, suspect a good match to current electronics.

I've read all the threads here so we do not need to rehash that.  Just wondering if others out there have FIRST HAND experience with these or other Tekton speakers

Thanks.

David_ten,
I have the Monitor only; it looks like the top half of the DI, but
the drivers are different and the single port is on the back. My
comments on the bass referred to the Monitors + Emotiva subs,
though I suspect the Monitors by themselves would do very well.
Eric says they get good response down to around 35hz (with room gain).
Paired up with 2 subs, I have a full range system I'm very happy with-

I got the Impact Monitors in this weekend (in Farrari yellow), I'm very impressed. All the comments re: the Double Impact apply - airy, 3-D midrange & extended, clean highs, beautiful sound-staging, very dynamic with good bass response (paired with my Emotiva DSP10 subs). I listen primarily to Classical orchestral and solo piano. The 6 tweeter array seems to unravel orchestral textures better than a traditional cone midrange driver. The drivers are different than the top half of the DI's: 2 SB Acoustics
6 1/2"  mid/bass drivers and 7 Tymphany tweeters. These compare favorably with any Monitor I've heard-

giantsalami,
I saw your picture on the Tekton site, very impressive. I'm driving the Impact Monitors with a high powered class D amp; why are you dropping
the Kismets? That would seem to be a match made in heaven (unless you
got bitten by the tube bug)-

Nonoise,'
I've had the Impact monitors only 5 days, but they've done some amazing things already. I'm in a quandary similar to Waltersalas; I've already got a highly regarded pair of 2-way monitors with a midrange of Danish origin and a RAAL tweeter. I listen primarily to classical music and solo piano (with a little jazz thrown in). One of the first cuts I played was Mussorgsky's "Night on bald mountain" on Reference Recordings RR 82CD. A very dynamic cut that I've heard many times on many different systems. I've never heard the orchestral textures unravelled like the Impact Monitors did, giving an airy, 3-D soundstage. I heard this cut on a highly regarded $45,000 speaker with highly regarded SS electronics; it was not even close, the Impact Monitors bested them.  On the other hand, I'd give a slight edge to my Reference Monitors for solo piano music (at this point in time). They seem to give a more solid, weighty piano sound, whereas the Impact monitors had a lighter touch. It may really come down to which presentation your prefer; they both sound very good with solo piano. I listened to a Jazz vocal recording of Blossom Dearie on Verve; the Impact Monitors gave a really organic, airy, 3-D sound to her voice,  realistic and very pleasing to listen to, right smack in the middle of the 2 speakers. My reference monitors did a good job as well, but a slightly different presentation. I'll give further thoughts as I listen more and the speakers break in-

I've got the Dome tweeter in my Impact Monitors; the picture on Tekton's website shows the ring radiator (with the nipple) I believe. BTW, just listened to the Pittsburgh SO doing Strauss' Elektra & Rosenkavalier suites on Reference Recordings FR-722 SACD; spectacular orchestra
sound on this Hybrid SACD (I listened to the PCM layer).(All my comments include my 2 Emotiva DSP-10 subs with the Monitors)-

audionoobie,
someone in NJ has a brand new pair of DI’s FS on the Emotiva Forum-

" How much toe-in are you guys using?"-porscheracer

I talked to Eric about toe-in yesterday; he says toe them in

so the Speaker axis crosses 2-4 feet behind the listeners head (so there is an illusion that the inside front and back edges of the speaker appear to be about 1" wide, if you can picture that). At a listening position 8 ft. in front of the speakers, the axis should meet 10-12 ft. from the speakers.

jcarcopo,
I'm the same way with my Impact Monitors; I'm going through my whole
CD collection, everything sounds different and usually better-

I have just moved my Impact Monitors a little closer to the front wall (the front of the speaker is 2 feet from the front wall now). Also moved my listening position a bit more out into the room. The mid/upper bass has filled out, the sound is better balanced and the imaging is just as good, if not better. Speaker placement can indeed make a BIG difference-

I'll  echo Waltersalas and say please chill everyone.  Custom speakers ordered from other ID companies (i.e. Salk & Ascend )  can take many months to build and deliver, especially with a custom finish. A lot of the Tekton designs are brand new (Ulfberht, Mini-Ulf & SE versions) and it's only reasonable to expect a lengthy wait. Maybe Eric should "under promise" and "over deliver" as waltersalas says. My Impact Monitors took 5 weeks to ship and were well worth the wait-

Speaking of tubes, just got in the new TAS (#276). Harley did a review of the Berning 211/845 monobloc amplifier (a cool $75,000/pair). Called it the "finest amplifier I’ve ever heard". No mushy rolled off classic tube sound here with "superb bass, wide dynamics, and stunning resolution and transparency". 60 watts of Class A triode tube power with zero feedback. This is his best ZOTL design yet, according to Harley-

See the new August Stereophile for a very positive review of the Tekton Impact Monitors by Herb Reichert. I’m very happy with my pair, the 2nd pair ever made (serial# 0003 &0004). Herb says: "Few speakers can play every musical genre with the Impact’s level of ease, acuity and, uh ...impact. Add to these virtues the fact that few other moderately priced audiophile speakers can play so loud without distortion ... I doubt that many pairs of stand mounted speakers could fill a larger room as powerfully or effectively as these did mine" Well said! Congrats to Eric Alexander for a very successful and musical sounding design-
