The cost of return shipping is well worth the price of being able to evaluate in home risk free. With some stores if you return speakers they will only provide you with store credit where you are limited to the brands they carry and there could be a restocking fee.
Tekton Double Impacts
Anybody out there heard these??
I have dedicated audio room 14.5x20.5x9 ft. Currently have Marantz Reference CD/Intergrated paired to Magnepan 1.7's with REL T-7 subs. For the vast majority of music I love this system. The only nit pick is that it is lacking/limited in covering say below 35 hz or so. For the first time actually buzzed the panel with an organ sacd. Bummer. Thought of upgrading subs to rythmicks but then I will need to high pass the 1.7's. Really don't want to deal with that approach.
Enter the Double Impacts. Many interesting things here. Would certainly have a different set of strengths here. Dynamics, claimed bottom octave coverage in one package, suspect a good match to current electronics.
I've read all the threads here so we do not need to rehash that. Just wondering if others out there have FIRST HAND experience with these or other Tekton speakers
Thanks.

The harshest gear critic I know came over today for a DI demo. I expected to have the DI’s taken down a notch by his scathing review. 2 hours later he was at my door putting on his shoes saying they are one of the best speakers he has ever heard, specifically the bass and natural sound of the instruments (he is a musician) I can see a speaker like this appealing to musicians more than the ultra ego audiophile types. Being the only person in the area with a pair I should be able to share a negative review at some point but so far they have been enjoyed by all. |
I'm awaiting delivery on a Pass Labs X 250.5 for the Mini Ulfs (when they arrive) So far there has only been 1 tube amp used with DI's and it was disappointing compared to ModWright SS. If there is one amp I should have kept around for the Mini Ulfs it would be the Finale 3008 SET integrated. Hopefully I will get to hear them with a proper tube amp at some point. |
When I said it could happen pretty easily I meant if the product was mishandled by the shipping company. The box is not designed to push in the dust caps. Sadly this happens all too often and I could provide a long list of manufacturers this has occurred with from ATC to Martin Logan. When handled properly like the boxes indicate it shouldn’t be an issue but good luck getting the overworked shipping company employee to read the packaging. At one point over 50% of the speakers I would ship to Quebec were getting damaged in transit. |
I cancelled my Mini Ulf order as I felt things were not being done in a timely matter considering I received a damaged pair of Double Impacts over 2 months ago and have been waiting for a resolve ever since. IMO Tekton is making the best sounding product for the price right now. This was a matter of principle for me and nothing more. |
I ran the TDAI-2170 as a secondary amp from 2015-2016. It’s greatest strength was bringing quality bass out of every speaker big or small. It was successful being paired with everything from PSB T3’s to B&W 803 D3’s. The results with standmount speakers was very impressive. It should be pretty interesting with Double Impacts. I replaced it with a Devialet D-Premier but the room perfect was (and still is) missed. http://img.canuckaudiomart.com/uploads/large/1192358-lyngdorf-tdai2170-integrated-amp.jpg |
His review was good and honest. I didn’t agree with some points but it is still a great reference for future buyers. I don’t see that he has owned speakers anywhere near 30k for comparison so I found that bit confusing. His comments about being a speaker you don’t need to make excuses for was spot on. All I have to do is put them on for company and the speakers do the talking. |
As a total system. I did on occasion use it as a DAC if I was in between gear swaps or just playing around. All I learned from that exercise was keep it as a complete package. One speaker I really loved pairing it with was PSB T3's. After room correction it provided such a perfectly balanced presentation from top to bottom. |
Just my 2 cents since I have experience with both. You won't find any improvement (at least to my ears) over the Nord One Up with the Lyngdorf 2170 minus the room correction. It should be mentioned there were some speakers that sounded better without room perfect. The effortless power of the Nord amp gives it an iron grip with most speakers. I did find the 2170 to be easier on the ears at lower volumes though. Pairing the Nord with a quality tube preamp can eliminate many undesireable issues. I have a friend using one with an EAR 868. Devialet does a great job of making a Class D hybrid amp that retains the qualities you mention with your monos. I went from the Lyngdorf to a Devialet D-Premier and the difference in sound quality was not subtle. I personally preferred Pass Labs and ModWright with the Double Impacts but that's just me. |
