Tekton Double Impacts

Anybody out there heard these??

I have dedicated audio room 14.5x20.5x9 ft.  Currently have Marantz Reference CD/Intergrated paired to Magnepan 1.7's with REL T-7 subs.  For the vast majority of music I love this system.  The only nit pick is that it is lacking/limited in covering say below 35 hz or so.  For the first time actually buzzed the panel with an organ sacd. Bummer.  Thought of upgrading subs to rythmicks but then I will need to high pass the 1.7's.  Really don't want to deal with that approach.

Enter the Double Impacts.  Many interesting things here.  Would certainly have a different set of strengths here.  Dynamics, claimed bottom octave coverage in one package, suspect a good match to current electronics.

I've read all the threads here so we do not need to rehash that.  Just wondering if others out there have FIRST HAND experience with these or other Tekton speakers

Thanks.

I've had both with my D.I.'s being I believe the most current version.

I would describe the 2 models performance as very similar with the D.I.s having a deeper bass response, although I doubt most would deem the Electrons to be  lacking in that department. The D.I.'s also IMO are slightly smoother responding with a shade more depth. However, those features could just be the most recent modification that have been added to the design.

I sure liked the weight of the Electrons a lot better.

In addition to everything that has been stated, arrangements can also be made for in home pick up in the event the speakers are to be returned to Tekton.

There is an old saying "you can't please all the people all the time."

@csmgolf ,
Thanks for detailing what your in home audition would consist of. It would take considerable effort for the audition process. Clearly something to avoid if the D.I.'s would not match your taste.

I also believe with Tekton being a smaller business at this point and up to their eyeballs in existing orders they might feel that the company is best served by not participating directly at Axpona this year.

Corelli brings up some excellent points pertaining to subs that you may draw a conclusion from without in home work.

If you do progress to the point of in home I'm pretty sure without checking that the in home trial is for 60 days.

I'm a big fan of Herbie's products. I believe I've ordered from them on 12 occasions.

When I received my D.I.'s I wanted the Giant Threaded Gliders, and for about a week could not get an answer at their location and then I was fortunate enough to acquire them used from a valued member of this thread.

Using the 8 units however I was disappointed with the result. Again believing in their products my conclusion was it was quantity not quality. With plenty of product laying around I added a Giant Glider to the center of the D.I.'s, now like a 5 dice arrangement with good results, but not quite there yet. I then added a couple of large square dots dead center in front to each which in this configuration has done the trick for me.

pts,

These speakers depending on set-up can range from somethings afoul to phenomenal. I have them and feel they are excellent. But why take the chance on some other environment. Go through the hardship of the 60 day in-home trial. From my understanding very few ever go back for refund.
Also you are not very far from Utah, maybe a nice little vacation. Beautiful national parks in Utah, and I'm sure Eric will give you a demo, but in home is the way to go IMHO.

Best of luck,

@343mps

When I ordered my pair I was allowed to choose any color I wanted from Home Depot. I went standard finish, not high gloss though. But with that, no restriction on returning. YMMV.

I would check with Eric about any custom request.

Best of luck,

Two others who I remember from this thread that preferred the Lyngdorf-Tekton combo over all their other possibilities were Grannyring, and Kdude. Both have subsequently sold their D.I.’s.

With all the positive feedback here and elsewhere pertaining to the Lyngdorf, I have been considering it but was put off when at Axpona again it was a silent display. Wouldn’t it seem that an active display of a room correction device would have a lot to gain at such a venue?

Slightly different experience here with my D.I.'s with the Herbie Giant Gliders.
I felt the Threaded Giant Gliders weren't controlling the lower energy properly in my environment leaving the lower registers ill defined.

Being a big Herbie's fan I had plenty of spare accessories laying around. To the Giant Threaded Gliders I added a giant Glider near the middle along with some stacked large square dots centered front. It worked to define and eliminate the hollow affect and slight boominess.

I have not heard what the Gaia's are capable of however.

Wondering if anyone else here is using a Hornshoppe Truth line stage with their Tektons. I would be most interested in your amplifier experience with this combo.

I was considering the Dynamo but went with a Had Inspire SEP for my D.I.'s. The Had is a really nice amp however not IMO a perfect match gain wise.

I wholeheartedly agree that the Truth stays no matter what.

I will p.m. you to avoid hijacking this thread.

Aahhh!!! Grilles again! Tim you can find the answer somewhere in the 5000+ posts here, maybe, because Eric might have changed things up.

When I bought my D.I.’s grilles were available as a relatively minor upcharge of I believe $75.00. You probably still have that as an option. Best to give Tekton a call to verify status.

Tim, If you click on the price line on the Tekton website it will open up the purchase options.

My dedicated listening room is 12.5 x 15.5
About the time that the Electrons were released I bought them while being torn between them and the D.I.'s. Near the end of my 60 day trial I was able to upgrade to the D.I.'s (Thanks Eric!) so I've lived with both models.
First the D.I.'s can absolutely work great in your room size. However, careful room and system set up is necessary to really achieve outstanding results. I know many speakers need the whole package to perform and IMHO the Tektons fit into this category.
The Electrons are much friendlier size wise and weight wise obviously especially if your also an older audiophile like me.
One reason I changed models was for the higher efficiency but also if memory serves was the Electrons seemed to be limited on a 3 dimensional level. This critique needs to be taken with a grain of salt being that the Electrons were a recent release which I'm sure Eric tweaked somewhere in the last couple of years. With all that having been said I loved the D.I.'s from the beginning, they are a well proven model enjoyed by many including myself to this day.

I know Eric would use different tweeters and crossover components. One reason he stated was based on availability. I'm unclear on the history of the woofers.
Perhaps someone else can chime in on early woofers in the D.I's.

Do you have a Pass brick and mortar within your vicinity? If so, I would try to negotiate an in home trial. If impossible to try out the Pass, Van Alstine offers for cost of shipping in home evaluations for a couple of weeks.
Maybe it will be what your listening for and you'll have some extra cash left over as well.
