Tekton Design Speakers Price Increase
Yeah, it's my first post and in full disclosure, I saw an amp on here I wanted so I signed up and bought it through the classifieds.
Anywho, looks like prices went up across the board today at the Tekton shop. Glad I got my order in at Tekton before inflation/materials or demand finally pushed the cost up. Anyone else drop some stacks on Tektons just recently?
Honestly, the first time I saw the model I ordered (not sharing until I have my review and comparison with my prior setup complete) I took one shocked look at the arrays and thought "this guy got scammed and bought the worlds ugliest speakers. What an idiot!" Those arrays, lord. But then I auditioned them and ever since I had to build a copy- system and get a pair. I'll share more on my build after the room remodel and setup.
Back to Tekton, looks like materials are getting pricey (I noticed lumber went way up at the local box store). But how do people feel about the base prices increasing on models marked "sale" and the sale price increasing? Makes me think of the Shane company radio ads that criticize competition who mark up, put on sale and are essentially charging more. With so many blogs and videos praising a set-price synonymous with the name of the speaker build, for example 3k equaled base DI's (not $3,299) I think this will be harmful. Better to note on the home page that supplier pricing has caused a temporary increase, shipping charge, or something of that sort and that's necessary in this case because Tekton's price-point has so integrated with the product that youtubes and reviews have the price in the title or in the image. In fact, those reviews and video stills are on Tekton's website and show a conflict in pricing.
Get your fire-suits out because Tekton haters will flame. I've never even posted and I'm aware of the Tekton hate group, hoping I can get an unbiased couple of comparisons out there in the future for home mid-fi audio guys who don't care about the technical stuff, just hi value systems for the masses.

Thanks Miller, appreciate the vote of confidence! A guy who works for me is actually into 911's, so I do get the reference completely. You don't know what you don't know, as they say. Always bothered me when there is someone who "knows better" or "figured out the scheme" argument with a product that they clearly never heard or seen. I do wonder how those Moabs sound, bet they are bliss. I have a pair of Klipschorns so I am out of real estate to even consider something that big lol. Those Electron SE's have a sensitivity of 99db, I want to try them with a 300B. Using mono block Sophia Electric 91-01 amps with Takatsuki 300Bs. Make you cry on a pair of Klipschorns lol. Curious what they do on a more conventional speaker like these. What kind of equipment you running with those speakers? |
I didn't know you can do that! Put your system on here, that is. Very nice! I got some stuff up on Youtube, see below. Equipment list on there, missing some things I am sure. Just picked up a Rogue Audio Stereo 100. Put some telefunken tubes in it, 12au7 and ax7. VERY nice amp. Had the Dragon, took it back. Way too dry, lost the 3d depth. It was very clinical. Like how I imagine some guy behind a control panel of knobs in a mastering studio would want to hear it. Not sure why the Dragon is more expensive... But I will be using that for the most part with these Tekton's, but being they are so sensitive I just gotta know what those 300Bs sound like! @Miller, yes sir that's me. I got bored during quarantine ha. I officially ordered them. Tammy is real pleasant to deal with, she will get you the answer you want. I like the approach of the company in general, good for them. That is pretty neat about the PCA too, looked it up. My guy at work would go nuts for that ha. But I am sure your opinion is no more valuable than the countless hours Carp played all those same cars on Gran Turismo. I drive a Kia Sorento, sure I'm close too. WHY??!!! That all may be true but I perceive the opinion as ill-informed when it is an opinion formation under antagonistic influences. Life is all about perception now isn't it. Turns out, you learn quite a bit about life in kindergarten. Look, you may be a great guy, I have no idea. I am just some new dude, excited to talk to folks about a speaker purchase... and here we are. I don't know if there is a background between you two, but from my perspective, seemed a little vengeful when the guy actually is a instructor. I just wanted to smoke, talk about speakers.
