Technics Turntable SL-1600 auto arm question

This SL-1600 works well EXCEPT...  when I press "start" the arm moves all the way to the end of record and then goes back to the cradle and shuts off. Is there a simple adjustment to fix this quirk ??
"STOP" works okay and other arm functions as well.
