Thankyou calvinj, High-fidelty is a good cable, I look forward to your report, should be fun.
All I got To say at this point about the Tara Labs Cobalt power cord with top model Oyaide IEC and Plug is wow!, coming up on 85 hours of break in time, all my recordings are a new revalation!, never have I heard the missing music before Like I am now, this is truely one of the state of the art power cords out there!
I cannot waite untill the new Tara Labs cable models get reviewed by pro reviewers, and listened to be the community of Audiogon, seems in the world of High-End, It takes a while for a product to get circulated around before their is impressions posted about them.
Bob, you know, It,s been since 1996 That Tara labs has come out with two new flagship cables like the Evolution Grandmaster-1#, The Evolution Zero I/C and matching Evolution Omega speaker cables-2#,, they also have a host of other new models that come in two different models to better suite a system, controlled Band-width and Extended-band-width cables, Both the two top cables only come in the Extended Band-width version, you should check out the site, hit the products link, Read all that you can, Read also what the explanation is of the two Band-widths and get back to me, cheers.
At The given Retail price of the Tara Labs Cobalt with Oaide top model IEC and Plug, I am sure there may be better, However, I will put this power cord against any thing on the market in the $6,000.00 class and cheaper, and know there is no better of a power cord, All my recordings even at 138 hrs of break-in of this power cord has me Re-discovering the music, personally, I have never owned a better power cord, I know there may be better, at what price?, $8,000.00, $12,000.00, Really!,This power cord is what I can afford, btw, Most audiophiles believe I must be crazy to even have a power cord at $5,450.00 Retail for 6ft.
Hi Jeb, what did the stage 3 kraken cost you, if you mind me asking, I know that cable retails for more than double the tara Labs Cobalt power cord, and if you did not have the oyaide version cobalt power cord, It will not be as good, I Have the oyaide version, I could not be happier, the stage 3 kraken should be better, I do want you to know, there is a new power cord on the horizon, Tara labs has a new flagship power cord, they have not started selling it yet, It is called, The Evolution Grandmaster power cord, call Devon scott there at Tara labs, he can tell you about the power cord, this new power cord retails slightly more than the kraken, should be the good comparison to A/B, I will also add, I do not know of a power cord in exsistance at the Retail price of the oyaide version Tara labs cobalt power cord that is better, also, If you did not run the cobalt for atleast 400 hours of burn-in, you wasted your time listening to the power cord, cheers.
Jeb, when you get time, post us a review here of the sound of the kraken power cord, I do hear alot of good things about this great power cord, congrats to you, I cannot afford a power cord like that, awsome!
Hi Jeb, Yes, The cobalt in some systems has a bass bump for sure, one of the most organic, natural,Rich sounding power cords I know of, My system certainly does not need anymore bass!, The system had very good bass slam and Depth to the begin with, I will see how the cobalt works out, It's on my digital player,I may end up with the same problem you had, How many hours did you have on the cobalt you listened to on your system?, BTW, great review of the Stage -3 concepts kraken power cord, If you can, make sure you audition the Tara labs Evolution Grandmaster power cord, I am told it is quite different than previous power cords from Tara Labs, Thanks Jeb.
Iblieve, The Tara labs onyx and Zero gold are discontinued now, replaced by two cables that are the forefront of cable technology, The new top cable is called, The Elolution Grandmaster, The second from the flagship is called, The Evolution Zero I/C and matching speaker cable, The Evolution Omega speaker cables, redesigned from the ground up!, go to the Tara site, click on products, go to extended band-width cables, go to page 2, there you will be astounded with the info on the two premier cables of the world-wide market place, cheers.
Hi Jeb, I E-mailed tara Labs about this to much treble infomation you were talking about, and in turn to my supprise, Devon Scott-Vice president of Tara Labs E-mailed Mr Mathew Bond Him self, As It turns out, The Tara Labs Cobalt Power cord you listened to was not broken in!, I was shocked when Mathew's response quote-, The cobalt power cord takes hundreds of hours to break in, The complexity of the construction requires this amount of break-in,The result is smooth and extended resolution with a sound of realism. End of quote,,, So In my opinion, I will do 700 hours instead of 400 before I know and give my final impressions of this power cord, why so long of a break-in, well, I have the cobalt connected to a cd-player that only draws 25 to 35 watts max from the wall, LOL!, I cannot put the cobalt on my amp, The Krell 700cx is hard wired with a very good big girth stock power cord, and then I do not have an active pre-amp, I use source direct to amp, Very realistic sounding, there you have it, I can only use the cobalt where it is on my digital player, The cobalt with oyaide is retail $5,450.00 for 6ft, oh, and the new Tara labs Grandmaster power cord is around $12,000.00 for 6ft give or take on the price, you would have to call Tara labs to get exact pricing, I only know the rough price, also I was told by Tara Labs that if you do not use the cobalt for two weeks to a month, you will need to re-burn-in the power cord, ouch!, you got a good deal on the Kraken power cords, Misternice, The Kraken power cord retails far more than what Jeb paid for them,I just got my digital player that is breaking in as well, brand new, that is the reason I am just now breaking in the cobalt power cord, Jeb, I got a good deal myself, I got my cobalt that was only a year old, that is short-3ft for an astounding deal here on audiogon a year ago this june for a $1,000.00 out the door, talking about a deal of a life time, Hurray! Thankyou Jebsmith73, you are welcome to this thread any time!
Latest report, At 240 hours of burn-in with the cobalt power cord, It is beginning to open up, It is lighting fast!, Tiberal accuracy of the drums is uncanny real!, and I am happy to report, there is not bass bump at all!, there was, As the power cord further breaks in, that seems to went away, the clarity is spectacular!, I am truly convinced, there is no better power cord in the $7,000.00 class price point on down period, This power cord will even get better from what I am told with further burn-in according to what Tara labs has told me, cheers.
Jeb, Are you joking, Or have you actually done this type of break-in with a power cord before?, right now, I am spared any storms at the moment, so I am attempting 72 hours of continuous burn-in to accumilate with the 225 hours built up thus far, though the vacum deal sounds like it would work, I need to burn-in the digital player any way, It is new!, I had this same model in 2012, so I know it takes a long time to Burn-in the player, cheers.
Iblieve, I listened to the Evolution model zero, But no!, I have not A/B the cables, from what I did hear when I listened, The NEW cables are Revolutionary!,Enough for me to move to the Evolution Zero I/C and Evolution Omega speaker cables,, The Evolution Grandmaster power cord will soon be in the market place, However, you might as well sale your first born to buy it, It is cheaper than the best of High-Fidelity's power cords!, would make for a good comparison!
Hi Misternice, I have not tried the Tara digital power cord, I thought if I was going to give power cords in general another run, I should get the best that I could afford that would give after market cords a chance, my last exsperiences with power cords back in the 90s, I did not like none of them by any brand!, at this moment, I have never listen to a power cord that has this speed and timberal accuracy, the clarity is so mind bogling, that I do not believe no other power cord can have more clarity!, atleast I do not believe it is possible on my equipment, maybe equipment that cost $30,000.00 and more per componet, LOL!, I'm sure much more exspensive power cords may have some attributes this power cord might not have, But clarity and prat speed is absolutly not one of them!
@ Judyazblues,, ESP, Shunyata,Beldin,Syngistic Research, audioquest,Tara Labs,Purist audio,Nordost,MIT,Cardas, siltech,Kimber cable,XLO Electric, etc..., most of these I owned or rented from the cable company in the late 90s with a group of friends, we put alot of money in a pot together to rent cables, all of them were terrible for a Krell FPB 200, the stock Beldin cable that came with the amp worked best!, check out the XLO electric site, MMMM, They look like they are tring to come back into the market as a contender for cables, Back in the day, XLO was considered very good, along with synergestic Research, I NEVER liked ESP cables!, that was another power cable that was raved about in the late 90s that turned out a dud for me, Judyazblues, I will say, this cobalt is the most exspensive power cord I have ever owned, and quite frankly, I believe cables are over priced period!, I am not a fan of the 600% to 1000% mark up of cables, I mean Really, How much money does it take to make them?, A $14,000.00 cable likly cost them a $1,000.00 to make!
Everyone, Rebel721 is who I bought the Tara Labs Cobalt from!, Hi Robert, I see you kept the Tara Omega Gold speaker cables and Zero Gold digital cable, The cobalt works well On my system, I understand there is better, I was the very first person that ever told you about Tara Labs coming out with the new cables a whole year this month of June before Tara Labs came out with them, Are you going to check out the New Tara labs Grandmaster Power cord, They have the proto type now, They should start selling it now, before they put it on their site, like they did with all the new cables, I believe the cobalt is certainly worth what you sold it to me for, Robert, you know Tara Is really known for their speaker cables and interconnects, maybe the Grandmaster power cord will put them on the map for power cords, you did tell me you were getting the kraken power cords when you sold me the cobalt, The stage 3 kraken is over two and half times the retail price of the cobalt, It should be better, I also have the Tara Labs Omega Gold speaker cables, and the Tara Labs Zero gold interconnect now, And yes, my plans are to move up to the new Tara Labs Evolution Zero interconnect and the matching Evolution Omega speaker cables, nothing wrong with what I have, just the new cable is only $2,000.00 more for the 8ft speaker cables, so at a supposed 75% better Band-width, It's a no brainer to move up the cable food chain, It seems you will Have your new cables before I will, would you do me a favor, even though I have heard these cables for a brief time, can you share your impressions of the new Evolution Zero interconnect and Evolution Omega speaker cables Here on this thread?, Thanks Robert L.
Iblieve, I would keep the Acrolink pc-9500 if I were you!, I read the reviews you were talking about, The best thing I like about what I read, was the fact the pc-9500 has a thick, deep mid-range, I believe this may be missing in this cobalt power cord, Not sure yet, I may look into getting a stage 3 concepts kraken or a High-fidelity power cord, I have not seen these power cords on the used market!, I will assure you, I am not willing to pay retail for a power cord, speaker cables and interconnects, That's a differnt story, I know Tara Labs Is King of sound reproduction when It comes to speaker cables and interconnects, The cobalt is not as bad as it's made out to be, It sounds good, I have heard numerous power cords sound alot worse for sure!,,I do hope they do something special with the new Evolution Grandmaster power cord, I may find a way to audition the Grandmaster power cord!, I do want to keep everything, of course, Tara Labs!
@ Rebel721, for many reasons I believe the new Evolution Zero and matching Evolution Omega speaker cables are the best of all brands out ther like you are stateing, However, For your own good!, you best not audition the new top cable By Tara Labs- The Evolution grandMaster speaker cable and interconnect, you may find yourself re-morgageing your house!, you need to know, as good as the new zero and omega is, the grandmaster is 50% more band-width!, I do agree, the best deal would be the new zero and omega.
@ Iblieve, I noticed you have for sale your Acrolink pc-9500 here on audiogon, Man, I thought you were going to keep it, that cord has many good pro reviews on it, currious, what are you replacing that power cord with?
Misternice, you know, The cobalt may not be a referance level power cord competing with the level of power cords costing 2 times for 6-foot, or even more money 3 or 4 times the cost of the cobalt, there may even be a power cord that cost a little less that might be better, However, The cobalt still is a good power cord that is much better than alot of power cords out there, this power cord is no slouch by no means, It does have a prat speed and clarity with good bass, I have defiantly heard way worse power cords in my time!, the good news is, I do have referance speaker cables and interconnects that are world class!, If you noticed, Rebel721 owns some Tara Labs and is getting the new Tara Labs Evolution Zero I/C and matching Evolution Omega speaker cable, you can assume that He knows there is no better In interconnects and speaker cables!, Yes I agree, getting a Kraken power cord or even the suppossed better High-fidelity Ultimate Referance Rhodium Plus power cord, or the New Tara Labs Evolution Grandmaster power cord would bring up my power cord status to referance level to match my other cables, sad but true, I cannot afford it at this time for a power cord, since Tara Is known for their speaker cables and interconnects, I am getting the Evolution Omega speaker cables first, then the Evolution Zero interconnects after that, this may take a year, everthing is now set into progress now, cheers.
To be honest with you misternice, Tara labs says the cobalt works best on power amps and pre-amps, I only have a way to use the power cord on my cd-player, cheers.
Rebel721, Exactly my sentiments, going to the evolution Zero and Evolution Omega is the END GAME FOR THE BOTH OF US!, Remember, please post your impressions of the new cable here, cheers.
What's funny!, I did not specify what I currently have tested for power cord on my equipment!, and yes Iblieve, power cords are overrated!, I believe you can get more satieisfying results with a line conditioner, LOL!, Oh, I do my best to ignore Judyazblues, as you should!
Misternice, working on 350 hours of burn-in on the Cobalt, This power cord sounds great to me, I like it, like I said before, very fast, clarity to die for, and has good bass to the sound, the noise floor is droped hugely!I suppose you are correct, I do not believe I will go back to stock power cords either, I admitt, takes some getting use to, It seems you hear everything compaired to stock power cords and this cobalt is not as warm sounding like the stock power cords, I believe it's due to not rolling off the highs, pretty much the stock cords are nowhere near as extended in the frequencys as a good after market cord such as the cobalt, If anything, This Tara Cobalt has gave me a good tast of whats possible that may be better out there in power cords, cheers.
I would like to know your impressions of the Stealth power cord when you get some big numbers in break-in on it, How is the line conditioner and resonance shelf making out for you?
Calvinj, you are welcome Here!, talk all you want, about whatever you want, Happy Listening!
Rebel721, It is great to have you on this thread, tell us about the sound of the Hybred Ypsilon equipment, never listened to any of these componets, I try to stay with American equipment, since all the foriegn equipment I have tried was not reliable, not saying yours may not be, I know nothing about Ypsilon other than checking out their internet site because you said you own this equipment, cheers.
Misternice, check out the mad scientist power cord review thread, the power cord has magnets similiar to High-fidelity power cord, but with other goody's to make the power cord work, and get this, they are from new Zealand where you are living?, or did you go back to Australia?, any way, check that out, I would'nt mind buying one,Damn, It's only $500.00!, this beat out all the High Diamond p4 and p3 power cords that costed thousands, mmmmm, Awsome!
misternice,That's what I have, Krell!, The legendary modified FPB 700cx that will be here tomorrow!, what do you have?, make sure you tell me what you think of your new top model stealth power cord, 400 hours today, I believe this Tara Labs cobalt is worth the asking retail price, regardless what the two guys may have said, they have a $10,000.00 power cord for 6ft!, you still stay in New Zealand?
@ Jebsmith73, are you out there, hey, I was currious about what your system is and the the cables you are useing?, I ask this, because the Tara Cobalt I have has 405 hours on it, The cobalt is connect to a tube cd-player that has two 12ax7 tubes, one 12au7 tube, and the magical 6z4 recectifyer tube in the power supply, then I have all top model Tara Labs cables with a Brand New Krell 700cx amp that costed a pretty penny to get krell to make new inside and out, I am telling you all this, because we both know cables are system dependent!, what I am saying here is this Tara Labs cobalt is like we got new speakers that cost several times than what we have, The cobalt is MAGICAL sounding on our system that we have, you are invited to come hear your self if you can come this way where I live, This power cord is a Keeper!, me and the wife are astounded!
Misternice, I got the amp in yesterday!, needs 500 hours of burn-in, However, we got shocked of the very real sound of the whole picture!, I have no idea other than a conclusion I thought about yesterday, this dawned on me like a ton of bricks!, the couple of guys who downed the Tara Labs cobalt does not have a Tara Labs Zero Gold and Omega gold with the cobalt power cord, Dude, This combo was frickin awsome, the wife was telling me she had goose bumps up and down her arm, that the whole system sounded very natural and real, I was very impressed to hear that coming from her, since this is my hobby and she kind of listens at times and says nothing, I will say this, My cobalt now has 400 hours of continous play on it, yes, at first their was a bass bump like Jebsmith73 said, that went away!, then there was a worse sound, a upper mid-range bump, ouch!, I believe Jebsmith73 called it, to much treble info, that went away as well!, listened to all this happen on dedicated tube head phone amp, the power cord sounds spectacular with the other Tara cables!, I am being Honest here, I am very impressed with the sound of the Tara Cobalt power cord mated with the Tara Labs Zero Gold I/C and Omega Gold speaker cables I have at this point and time, we will see how all sounds when all the rest of the system breaks-in competly, cheers.
Yeah, If you are making good money, I wouldnt give it up either!, whats really weird is that nearly every Krell model series sounds different from one to the other, for instance, it all comes down to personal preferance, I like the FPB CX line alot better than the Krell Evolution and Evolution E series, the cx line is totally different sounding, the other two lines are dry and cold extended detailed brittle treble sound, my Krell sounds closer to tube amp sound, on another subject, The Stealth v-12 power cord you are getting is so Brand new of a just introduced model power cord, you will be the first person I know to have one, so if you do not mind, when you get a quik as you can 500 hours of break-in on that baby, I want to know yout compete thoughts of that power cord here on this thread, cheers.
BoB, A Record player would be awsome, I have not got to that point yet financially, It's taking me two years to get to this point, ouch!, this Hobby is more exspensive than both my automobiles thus this far!, I do believe when I start building my second system, I will have a modest priced turn table set up on that because I will be useing a intergrated amp on that, the cool thing is, I have the cables for second system now, yes, Tara labs the one I/C and speaker cables ready to use for that system when it comes into play, right now, I am focused on this main system, I have numerous tweaks I need to do, from modding my digital player, to top best recepticals like Oyaide and furetech, so I have my hands full with all that etc..., currently, I really want to enjoy music, since I had such a long absence of my system of a fricken year,I am very excited to listen to music, Hurray!
Bob, you mean you got a free turn table and your money back?, if this is true, some people just have all the luck, You best thank the lord above for that blessing, when the day comes, I hope we are still talking, and I can ask for your help with a turn table, Now about this Krell 700cx amp, man, this thing gets incredibly HOT!,we have exsperienced this amp in the past, some how, it seems Hotter since it operates to specs now, the audio room is really to small for the heat, I run this amp for 15.5 hours yesterday, it was like having the stove opened to heat a home, I believe I am going to get a battery operated fan to blow the air across the amps top to help keep it cooler, now the amp needs to be a little hot to sound it's best, that's just the way pure class A operates, plus, I believe the 20 amp receptical I have is inadequete for the amp,LOL!, it's a $6.50 20 amp recepticle, I will soon be getting the best Oyaide R-1 recepticle or a Best Furetech recepticle, and input a single pole 30 amp breaker, and take the 20 amp breaker OUT, This will make the amp effortless!, should run cooler too, cheers.
Rebel721 said, The Tara Labs new Evolution zero interconnect and matching Evolution omega speaker cable will have NO equal!, of corse I agree, I have the Zero gold and Omega gold, I have NEVER heard better FOR my system!
Hi Misternice-BoB, I do not have the Ayon cd-2s player no more, It's been gone a very long time,a year I believe, I bought another Vincent cd-s7 tube/solid state player that is way, way better than the Ayon for half the price of the Ayon, I got the very last new vincent cd-s7 in the U.S.A., I only have 450 hours of break-in on it now!, last time took longer, This player is discontinued now, It has two 12ax7 tubes, one 12au7 tube, and a 6z4 tube in the power supply, dude, you should hear this player on the Tara Labs Zero gold I/C and Omega Gold speaker cables, and the Tara Labs Cobalt with Oyaide IEC and plug is on the vincent too!, the most perfect cymbol sounds you will ever hear, they sound fricken real!, and of course all the other sounds of music are spot on, you know Krell inserted all new capacitors in my Krell 700cx amp that was not available in 2005, It's modded!, I have owned many krells in my time, never have I heard a krell amp sound this good right out the box Brand New Like this one is, they re-did the cosmetics to new as well to, essentially, A brand new Krell 700cx amp, tell me all about the stealth power cord when it breaks in, cheers
Bob, I just did a interesting thing here, I have some Black diamond racing cones and these other resonance tweek ect...,I inserted the BDR cones under the cd-player, The BDR cones destroyed my incredible 3-D sound, However, These Golden Sound DH squares did do something good!, I have 5 of them, you will not believe where I inserted these at?, The girth of the Tara Labs Cobalt power cord is very big, and the weight of the power cable was pulling down from the IEC on the cd-player badly, so I stacked the Golden Sound DH squares on top of one another, not under the plug, but under the body of the power cord right after the IEC plug, wow!, this made a contribution for the sound, I suppose cables get vibrations from sound too!, everthing in the sound improved and still retained my palable 3-dimensional sound!, Awsome, Hurray!
Hi Calvinj, Very, Very, good post you did here, I enjoyed reading about all that you are doing, I am pleased to be your friend, I do have a question for you, now that you are getting exsperience that most audiophiles do not have, tell me, in your opinion, If we were to use percentages, How much more of a good sound improvement did you hear between the 20k,50k, systems versus the 100k,150k,200k systems?, some say that there is little to be gained when you spend past 100k systems, they say you get small returns, like 5% to 30% and that's all.
Hi calvinj, I asume that the two gentleman that did not like the Tara labs Cobalt power cord did not have a Tara Labs Zero Gold interconnect and Omega gold speaker cables, Here is what I will say, Jebsmith73 said that the cobalt had a bass bump, and to much treble resolution, and Rebel721 said, the cobalt is not a referance power cord, yes the power cord HAD a bass bump, Had upper mid-range emphasis, Those attributes went away during break-in!,, I absolutly give you the truth here, at 465 hours of burn-in, this is one of the most profound up-grades for sound reproduction in MY system I have ever heard in my life!, The power cord is very natural sounding mated with the Tara Labs Zero Gold and Omega Gold, It's like they were made for each other!, I am extremly pleased!, My system has NEVER sounded so good!, sysnergy baby, that's right, sysnergy is where it is at!, cheers.
you are learning well calvinj, all that you are exsperiencing, I have done many times thru out the years!, I have litteraly traveled half the united states listening to systems, atleast you have not had to travel far out side the state of Texas!, you can very well turn out like me, Im saying, with the exsperience you gather, you will learn to be a top builder, meaning, for less money, you will, and can exceed your exspectations for whats possible in the High-end Audio, Happy Listening!
Hi Misternice, How is the stealth power cable sounding?, I know it is early, but a cable should give you a hint of the sound New.
Hi Tboooe, Wow!, that took you a very long time to get 300 hours on your cable, I am very happy you are loving the Tara Labs-The Two with HFX grounding station extended version interconnect,As far as your The one speaker cables, man, those cables are very musical, I love them!, I still have a pair of 6ft, I will keep them forever, LOL!, I suggest this Tommy, If their is a way you can audition a Tara cable before you buy, Do it!, Why?, well, as good as Tara Labs Is, sometimes, more resolution is not always the fix, an example, the 0.8 is a better cable than the- The one speaker cable, however, depending on your system needs, the one is more warm, where the 0.8 has more resolution with a little warmth, I would audition the digital cable first, you have great speaker cables, I would be in no hurry to get to the speaker cables, find out first which model digital cable from Tara Labs best fits your system, then, if desired, go for speaker cables, welcome back to the thread.
Bob, that sounds great, give us a review of the stealth power cable in detail, I like to know what other power cables you have compaired them to?
Rebel721, Hi, Have you got your new Tara labs Evolution Zero and Evolution Omega cables yet?
@ Jebsmith73, how is your Stage -3 concepts Kraken power cord sounding?, how many hours do you have on it now?
Jebsmith73, How many kraken power cords did you get?, I do not believe I have seen any Kraken power cords used for sale on audiogon, must be rare that anyone sales them, can you tell me about the sound?, the cobalt here litterally took over 500 hours to break-in for real!, still getting some small improvements, believe me, I understand, moving the cobalt around has the same effect, however, I have to unplug it from time to time because of lighting storms down here where I live, takes a few hours to re-ajust, are all your cords the same length?, cheers to you Jeb, thankyou for your reply.
