Synergistic Red Fuse ...

I installed a SR RED Quantum fuse in my ARC REF-3 preamp a few days ago, replacing an older high end fuse. Uhh ... for a hundred bucks, this little baby is well worth the cost. There was an immediate improvement upon installation, but now that its broken in (yes, no kidding), its quite remarkable. A tightening of the focus, a more solid image, and most important of all for my tastes, a deeper appreciation for the organic sound of the instruments. Damn! ... cellos sound great! Much improved attack on pianos. More humanistic on vocals. Bowed bass goes down forever. Next move? .... I'm doing the entire system with these fuses. One at a time though just to gauge the improvement in each piece of equipment. The REF-75se comes next. I'll report the results as the progression takes place. Stay tuned ...

Any comments from anyone else who has tried these fuses?

It's personal preference but the AH fuses were superior to SR in every component, more texture, fuller sounding and very natural sounding.
Mitch2,

I had a full loom of SR20 before upgrading to the AH fuses but I recently compared the Red when I ordered another AH fuse for my Vitus integrated. The Red/20 are much thinner sounding and bright in comparison to the AHs which are much fuller and natural sounding...
I'd recommend to those who are using the Reds, try 1 AH fuse in its place and you'll hear the analogy I mentioned about thinness. You will also hear more texture and body especially with violins, acoustic guitars and cellos and also experiment with direction.
jazzonthehudson,

Give them about 5-6 days of constant running-in and I think you are going to like what you hear...After run-in, experiment with direction and orient the direction that sound best.
Using them is all of my components; 2 in Modwright Player, 1 in tube power supply and 1 in Vitus RI-100 Integrated amp.

If you are an AGon user, Joseph will send you one at no cost to evaluate and not one of them has ever blown like the SR fuses I've owned.

Hello Wig

How do I go about getting one from Audio Horizons. Thanks

^^See jazzonthehudson post above.^^

No speed, clarity or detail is missing it just presents them in a more realistic way. I compared these fuses in my Vac and current Vitus integrated amp and on both occasions the SR just didn't sound coherent as the AH.
Try both in your system and choose the one that synergizes in your system.

It's amazing how a fuse can make such a dramatic improvement, but it does...
Still quite impressive with just over 24 hours of use...Going to try 2 of them in my CD player when the Cable Company gets them in.
Good to hear your positive experiences with the new SR-B fuses. I have 4 coming in next week to replace the AH fuses I have in my amp, CD player and tube power supply.

From what I've read, it's going to be a real treat in terms of transparency, sound-staging and realism which I have in spades already... Will not do too much listening until 70+ hours of continuous burn-in.
Have over 70 hours on my SRB 800Ma (2) fuses in my ModWright Sony 5400 and it's no doubt that they are transparent and capable of retrieving low level detail but I still feel they need WAY more time to sound their best. While the sound is open and detailed, it's still forward and a little hard in the upper region...

I spent about 40 minutes flipping them to discern the correct orientation; one side of the fuse is fuller with less detail and the other side is much more dynamic, better channel separation and more vibrant sounding.

I've read that they can take up to 200 hours to fully burn-in, so I'll give them another 5 days of continuous use and my lets them rest 24 hours before continuing burn-in.

More to follow...

After 96 hours of continuous burn-in, the two fuses inside of my SACD Player is really starting to open up, much smoother and the hard upper region is Gone and I'm hearing more texture, body and subtle cues on guitars, violins and cellos...

I inserted the SRB fuse into my Integrated amp last night and done some initial fuse orientation cold right out of the box just to get a sense of the sound with zero hours; results similar to what I experienced with my CD Player but different in many ways. One direction produced a more organic sound that was upfront in imaging but very little detail. A quick flip of the fuse and things changed, soundstage drastically shifted 4-5 feet behind the plane of the speakers allowing you to hear the recording venue of the Artists.

More to follow on the Amp fuses in 4 days with the tube power supply being the next upgrade...
David,

Looking forward to purchasing the CD you mentioned; cello and acoustic guitar are my favorite...
I have replaced all of my AH Fuses with the SR-B (4), 2 in CD Player, 1 in Tube Power Supply and 1 in my Amp and all I can say is WOW! Just like everyone else has reported, more transparency without any brightness, Much deeper/wider soundstage with unbelievable imaging....

Every component I put these fuses in were drastic but the CD Player results were shocking!,. Listening to one of my favorite Classic Guitarist, Julian Bream, Giuliana Grand Overture, Op. 61 Sonata in C, Op. 15: Allegro from a 1969 recording. This is not an Audiophile recording and you can hear the flaws in the conversion to digital such as hisses and noise but with the SR-B, it's as if I upgraded the processor itself. The sound became much cleaner, smoother with a vast deep stage.

Try one to see if some of these attributes can be duplicated in your system.
I have notice changes in my SRB fuses after 300 hours, especially on my CD Player and Tube Power supply and it's possibly due to the small amount of power that these components draw.

But I noticed on the CDs that I've been listening to for weeks that images has shifted toward the inside of the left speaker with more depth. Maybe my next upgrade will be the SR ECTs inside my CD Player...
mid40sguy,

Have you tried reversing the direction of the fuse? I noticed an improvement immediately after installing to include lower floor noise, incredible depth, air and extension after 75+ hours.

Brownsfan,
The SRB fuses improved each component I put them in, I feel as if I've been transported to the recording venue. The AH fuses are good but the SRB just take it to the next level especially with a high resolving system...
I also experimented with fuse direction on the first day to discern the best sound before sealing the unit back-up.

David,

Thanks for the info on the ECTs, may have to contact the MW to see where the most sensitive parts are inside of my MW Sony 5400.
Goose,

Our SA8005 contains buss fuses, so no fuse tweaking and a $300 savings :) for us but the tube power supply would be a good candidate. Let me know your findings if you go with the Blue.
