I've had both the AH fuse and Red fuse in the same Preamp and definitely preferred the Red. To me with the AH fuse in the imaging and stage sounded bloated and almost smeared. Whereas the Red lit everything up with great detail without being bright or harsh. The big difference comes when after having the Red in for a month or two then take it out and put the stock in, you can't put the Red back in fast enough. |
These SR Reds are pretty amazing at what they can do. I have two monoblock amps that have not only a fuse at the inlet but 4 on the board inside. I had changed two at a time over the course of a couple months but when I placed the last two Red fuses in each amp everything really opened up and took the performance to another level. It was rather shocking.
I've changed nothing but cabling and fuses in my system over the past year and certain songs that used to sound shrill and harsh are now naturally detailed and enjoyable to listen to. Same speakers, amps, pre, dac, and source but just different cabling and fuses did this.

Hey taters, would you like to start another thread with your question? I can start if for if you like. |
"As a final thought ... If anyone is finding the SR RED fuses to be "sizzly" and "bright," I'd take a good look elsewhere in the system. Work on those micro vibrations ... then get the fuses. "
+1

Ha! I like the description of the black fuse on the cable co. site. They actually said " once you go black..."
I'll probably try one in my dac since it only takes one fuse. |
Highend is where I get my fuses. Alfred is great to deal with. Let us know if and when he has the black in stock. |
I've got about 100 hrs on the black fuse I put in my Lampizator L4 dac and the level of realism is uncanny. I don't know how, why, or what. I'm just along for the ride... |
Ha! I swear SR must have sold their soul because I just don’t get why these are so dang good. It ain’t right I tell ya, it just ain’t right! :) |
Received two more black fuses today to put in a pair of Odyssey Kismet mono blocks at the iec inlet and I'm already getting excited for what's to come. I may do one more black fuse for my Herron preamp before I have a long talk with myself on whether to replace the fuses on the monoblock amp circuit boards. There's four in each amp so you can do the math...I did bite the bullet before and went all red fuses and it was really impressive what they did to the performance.
But im already getting a taste or insight to what oregonpapa has been experiencing so I'm just going to enjoy it as is for a while....if I can resist temptation. |
Macdude, where did you order the Telos Quantum X2 from?
I looked at their distributor list and couldn't find their fuses... |
On the topic of break in or burn in. When it comes to the preamp...can you have your source playing music through the dac to the preamp but have the preamp on mute to the amps and still get any benefit of burn in on the preamp?
|
tsushima1, same thing happened to me. On the same page they have an email address off to the left that I just tried and it sent so I'll see what they say.
I'm thinking of trying one in my preamp to see how it complements the SR black fuses in my dac and amps. But I'll order a black for the pre as well and see which one works better... |
@lowrider57
To me the Blacks offer a more natural almost softer sound but because of a lower noise floor there’s more detail. The biggest difference in my system from Red to Black is the level of realism the Black brings with a deep and wide soundstage. When it kicks in you’ll know right away.

Well, I've put these SR Blacks in all my home stereo setup and am fully impressed with what they have done with the sound of my system. Worth every penny for the improvement they brought.
I have a little desktop system at my work with Nappa Acoustics speakers and recently picked up their matching hybrid integrated amp for $400. Of course I just had to replace the fuse after the performance I got at home. It took a little longer than the typical 70 hrs but that little black fuse really turned that Nappa Acoustic amp into a stunner!
These Black fuses have increased the performance of my system more than any tube or cable could ever do. Thanks Oregonpapa for starting this thread! |
Well George, at least you care. If you were apathetic you would just pass over this thread but you definitely show an interest. |
So do atheists attend religious services every week just to see what's going? It's funny that the people who think this thread is a farce continue to follow and read every post and then take the time and effort to write a comment... |
Thanks knghifi for caring... |
