Synergistic Red Fuse ...

I installed a SR RED Quantum fuse in my ARC REF-3 preamp a few days ago, replacing an older high end fuse. Uhh ... for a hundred bucks, this little baby is well worth the cost. There was an immediate improvement upon installation, but now that its broken in (yes, no kidding), its quite remarkable. A tightening of the focus, a more solid image, and most important of all for my tastes, a deeper appreciation for the organic sound of the instruments. Damn! ... cellos sound great! Much improved attack on pianos. More humanistic on vocals. Bowed bass goes down forever. Next move? .... I'm doing the entire system with these fuses. One at a time though just to gauge the improvement in each piece of equipment. The REF-75se comes next. I'll report the results as the progression takes place. Stay tuned ...

Any comments from anyone else who has tried these fuses?

I trust Charles' ears and may try these fuses, but this company's quantum chips simply have to be a placebo (and make me distrust them more generally).  They make big ones to slap on the sides of your speaker cabinets for god's sake.  Only $130 a chip to make your speakers look horrible.  Standard arguments aside, there simply isn't a mechanism by which these speaker chips could work, besides the extremely well-established psychological one.
Well, despite my utter disbelief in this company's "quantum chips", I'm ready to bite the bullet on their fuses... too much universal praise in here for it to be wrong.  Anyone who upgraded to Blacks want to get rid of some Reds?  I need four slow-blow 5x20mms; two 1.6As and two 1As.

If anyone wants to do that, just PM me: https://www.audiogon.com/users/cal3713/feedbacks

Thanks,

Thanks for the correction David. As you point out, it appears I'm lumping anyone using the term quantum into a single sales category.  That makes me feel better about the fuses.
I've got a pair of Reds in the mail for my Coincident Frankensteins.  Needless to say, I'm curious.

Still on the look out for any usesd 1A slow-blows for my DAC if anyone wants to sell theirs...

Thanks Charles.  I will certainly report back on my listening impressions.  I'm also now down to needing just one last 1a slow-blow RED (thanks Tom) to finish out my DAC's complement.  Please let me know if anyone has one they want to jettison.

My used Reds arrived and have been placed in the Coincident Franks.  I was skeptical, but there was an immediate improvement, just as promised.  I am glad that the ears I trust in the thread were proven correct.  Maybe when they introduce the next round (Golds maybe?), I'll buy up some people's broken in Blacks.  Looking forward to the arrival of my last 1A so I can open up my DAC.
Just an update on trying out the SR-Reds in my PS Audio PWDACII.  They definitely hurt the sound in my system.  The sound got more "brittle" and less musical than with the stock fuses.  That result can be contrasted with their positive effect in my Coincident Frankenstein Monos.  Anyway, if anyone needs some 1a slow blow reds, I've got two I'd be happy to move on to another intrepid explorer.  Perhaps in your system you'll see different results, as the thread would suggest.

A little slow on checking the forum these days... but:

Charles - PWD Direct-to-amp. I would like to add a Coincident LS, but need the remote version, can only afford to buy used, and have trouble committing to that cost when the DAC already handles all my inputs.  I'm not currently buying anything, but vacillate pretty strongly between wanting to spend on the LS, a speaker upgrade to the Total Eclipses, or dealing with my power (probably by buying a regenerator like the PS audio P5 or P10, as my power browns out semi-regularly).  Tough to figure out which is the best investment.

OP - One of my fuses was used and the other was new.  I never checked on hours though. The PWD has two fuses and replacing either with a Red (new or used) always hurt the cause.  It's been a while so I don't remember the exact details, but I did run them in for at least three days (the DAC is always on).  My comparisons to the stock fuses happened after that.
I see my previous post got deleted by mods for using foul language.  Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the suggestion Charles.

Tzh21y. Your experience sounds like mine, albeit with the Reds in my DAC.  Definitely there was a change in sound, and I did not like it (a bit harder, thinner, and less musical).  I went back and forth with the stock fuses a number of times and am fairly convinced I'd win a blinded test.  I did like the SR Red fuses in my amps, however. Only went back to the stocks once because it was a pretty clear preference.

I bought mine used, so now I just have an extra pair sitting around, but it sounds like you should send yours back.

Despite the likely hypocrisy of my post, I’d just like to remind everyone, please do not feed the trolls. As you all are aware, some post primarily to derogate others and responding to them only amplifies the situation.

Thanks to the 99% for a good, informative thread with quality input from both sides of the fuse debate.
