I have read the same about the SVS subs although one critic referred to the sound as "vulgar" whatever that means. I've yet to see the word "musical' in reference to SVS. However, Art of Sound subs do both very well. Also power cords make a difference. I use a Voodoo "Tesla" on my "Tycus" sub. It is a huge improvement over a PS Audio Mini Lab. I also use a Vampire Wire SC II (copper/silver) sub interconnect which feeds low frequency information (lower w/ more authority) than the Nordost Bass-Line I was previously using. Test drive a sub before purchase. Good luck.
