bdp24 and edcynI too used to live near there. In the Valley, near Disney studios (who I worked for). Small world.
Didn't know Emitt died.
I'll throw one more band out there, Sneaker Pimps, kind of Punk mystical.

God, I'm having fun listening to (and buying some of) these suggestions!
Thanks guys.
Here's a group/album that is my favorite (makes you feel good-like the person you know you could be) album.
Midlake     The Trials of Van Occupanther

Glad I'm retired. I'll be busy all day with these.
Got another couple I think you'll love. All time favorite of mine. Heavy semi-metal with orchestration and a nice female vocalist: SKINDIVE  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuE6Ug4PgLg
I actually had a dream once where a voice said, "Buy the Camel allbum". Lo and behold there was such a group. Try Camel 'Snowgoose'. Amazing stuff
And don't forget KLAATU, the band mistaken for The Beatles.

And I couldn't agree more about CRACK THE SKY!
Thanks again everyone. I've spent over $300 so far on your suggestions! And my first hi end speakers are arriving in a week or so!
Keep 'em coming...
Thanks gratefuleric for reminding me of Ian Anderson’s Divinities. A spiritual masterpiece! And yet another vote for Blodwyn Pig.
1.Have you guys checked out Cloud Cult? My 25 year old daughter and I attended their concert in 2016. We both know all the words to all the songs. What a great bonding moment it was. Genius writing/music. Different. Try ’The meaning of 8’ first.
2.Poe ’Haunted’. A masterpiece. Kind of like a mystical musical.
Thanks again for opening my eyes to all this great stuff.
Shout out to Toy Matinee. Just listened again last night. Hard to find, but worth the hunt/expense. And DaDa, Wow I forgot just how good they were.
Took me this long to realize I misspelled Obscure in the original post!one more suggestion: Emitt Rhodes.
+1 on Spirit's Dr. Sardonicus. Early concept type of album, with very catchy tunes.

Try Jane Siberry   'No borders here'  Quirky, layered, kind of brilliant writing, once you've gotten used to her style.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1T4NxHk1L4
Here's a haunting song from a haunting album. The lyrics are just...lovely and creepy. Great sonics too.

Aqualung (no not that one) 'Strange and Beautiful'
This link may work if you just click on it. If not, Copy/Paste this link in your browser if you want to read them. I photographed the back of the album. Hope it works. You have to wait a few seconds before it shows up. (don’t do it with the wife around-seems there’s some ’adult’ type ads to entertain you while you wait)...

Bear with me, it’s worth it. This is the coolest ’liner note’ I’ve ever read.Exotica music was a big trend in the 60’s. Les Baxter’s ’Original Quiet Village’ was one such album.
A condensed version of the liner notes:
Three different men are mentioned, a bank manager, an airline pilot, and an actor, all who simply vanished from their respective lives.
The only thing they had in common was the fact that this Les Baxter album was spinning on all of their turntables.
I’m listening to it now, so if I never respond again, you’ll know why.
