Subwoofer cone "surround" material: treated foam vs rubber
For subwoofers, does anyone have any information on this topic? I know the newer infrared treated foam is not to be compared to the older "plain" foam that disintegrated after a length of time, but how does the newer foam compare to rubber?
A niche question I know, but after "due diligence" research, here is about all I've found:
-- makes no difference, one is as good as another
-- they cost they sub maker about the same, so it is not a cost thing
-- the rubber will harden and deteriorate faster than treated foam
-- the rubber will begin to lose it's specs after 5 years
-- treated foam will last 20+ years
Thanks for anything you know about this subject.
