Substitute for DSL-710A

Anybody can share an advise as to what could be a substitute for DSL-710A CR-ROM drive in the Arcam DV29 CD player?
I looked over other places/forums. Looks like the DSL-710A is not the best one out there. There is a risk of firmware incompatibility if I choose another model though I hope I should able to uprade the firmware. On mine the firmware version is LT7.9. Any opinions greatly appreciated.
