Inside the wall wart contains the SMPS. You would replace the wall wart and then use a LPS. In both situations, the power supply is outside of the unit itself. So you’re basically just replacing one for the other. On a sidenote, very often, a LPS will make a difference for the better. Make sure you get the correct voltage LPS to avoid frying little wires.
