Sony SCD-1

Has anyone found a problem with the Sony SCD-1 in that through the single-ended outputs there is a loud hum from the tweeters. If you have experienced this, have you been able to correct it?

Try to see if there is a switch to turn off the balanced outputs. If there isn't a switch, get a gold jumper pin from an audio dealer, and place in the balanced output pins. Also, make sure you don't have interconnects or speaker cables near your power cords.
you might have the sony set to 'custom' instead of standard. i konw this can cause a hum in the 777es. also, your ground circut might not be working with the sony so try using a two prong end plug for the power cord without and that should do it.
SCD-1 GREAT, BUT EMAIL ME FOR FREE UPGRADE REPORT! MY EMAIL ADDRESS IS nutriturf@cs.com. ON THE SUBJECT OF HISS, YOU PROBABLY HAVE A GROUND LOOP, OFTEN CORRECTABLE BY LIFTING THE GROUND WITH A "CHEATER" PLUG (TWO-PRONG MALE, THREE-PRONG FEMALE). THIS MAY NOT BE ENOUGH, HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE MULTIPLE GROUND INPUTS. THE SCD-1 IS VERY SENSITIVE AND WILL PICK UP AND AMPLIFY LOOP HUM THAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED BEFORE. IT IS PROBABLY NOT THE CUSTOM SWITCH, WHICH BYPASSES A HIGH-FREQUENCY DIGITAL FILTER AND HAS NEVER INTRODUCED HUM TO ANY OF THE DOZENS OF AUDIOPHILES WHO HAVE SELECTED IT. IF A CHEATER PLUG DOES NOT ERADICATE THE PROBLEM, GO ON A GROUND HUNT. LIFT EVERY GROUND EXCEPT ONE TO YOUR MAIN AMPLIFIER. DON'T FORGET THAT THE COPPER MESH JUST UNDER THE DIELECTRIC OF YOUR INCOMING RG6 CABLE LINE IS A DIFFERENT GROUND POTENTIAL PROVIDED BY YOUR CABLE COMPANY. IF THIS GROUND IS TROUBLESOME, ORDER A SPECIAL CABLE GROUND LIFTER FROM AUDIO ADVISOR, GRAND RAPIDS, MI. HOPE THIS HELPS. BRUCE KOPITZ, THE AUDIO ADVISOR.
