Sony SCD-1 is better a platform for mods such as RAM, VSEI, taking it to much higher level than either stock unit. Stock SA11s1 probably sounds better than stock SCD-1.
The Marantz is far more smooth and musical in the mid and high end, with a more accurate low end. The Sony is more detailed and ectronically processed sounding, but probably a better platform to modify.
