Decided to purchase the ML and the Shibata replacement styli. Easy to change and determine which way to go for the next cartridge. The TT is pretty good and the arm matches the fully suspended suspension well. Feel the best decision is play for now and full upgrade later to a new setup
Sonographe SG-3 Jelco Arm- Cartridge Upgrade
Hi All,
I have a pre-Conrad Johnson Sonographe SG-3 with Jelco 250ST and for now, an AT-VM95E. The cartridge is new and just for now. I will be adding a second turntable to the mix of much higher quality however the SG-3 is fully suspended and the Jelco is not a bad tonearm so I am wondering since I am purchasing an approximately $1k cartridge for the new table that I can use on this table, Is it worth it to swap out the Jelco arm for a significantly better arm (say a Jelco 750) knowing that a new turntable will use the cartridge as well as the arm so it's not a dedicated purchase.
Balance of the system is....
Krell Resolution 1
Maggie 1.7's
PSB Gold I's
Pass Labs X350.5
SPL Electros Preamp
Krell KSL Preamp
Luxman C-02 Preamp
Paragon System E tube preamp
Pro-Ject tube phono preamp
Denon DCD S-10
Still learning about what I can do with respect to what I am looking for in vinyl so fully balanced seems a good option for the new table, not a lot of fully balanced phono preamps out there but there are some good choices available. Not saying I am going fully balanced it's just that I do enjoy that dead quiet :)
