Shelter 501 Installation

I just received one of these units, enclosed with the mounting hardware is a small lead weight that appears to get installed between the cartridge and the headshell.

Is this weight only used if more weight is required, or is this something that you would install with all arms. My present arm is the OL Silver.

I appreciate your expertise and help in this matter.
