sanyo micro dwm 770 u personal home theatre....

Hi folks...giving this system to my niece for college...however...the included speakers...dwm 770 sp are less than desirable...and they have these small plastic almost mini usb connectors...is this a proprietary thing? At any rate...any other sanyo or other speakers have these as far ad upgrade? Pc speakers?
