Rotel Amp Serial Number Lookup

Hello everyone,

I am trying to find the build date of my Rotel RMB-1555 and Rotel are not very cooperative. The unit was purchased as a floor demo from a defunct Rotel dealer so I cannot go back to the seller.

Anyone know how to decode the serial number on Rotel products. My amp is S/N: 200-3461027.

My RMB-1555 (black) was bought as store demo in March 2020 with salesman insisting the warranty was intact (I would not have bought otherwise). Unit was duly registered the day following the purchase and Rotel web site indicated "registration complete, thank you". MInor issue cropped up recently and Rotel importer started by saying unit was not registered ! When confronted with invoice and registration evidence the story changed to: dealer should have registered unit and warranty started the day the dealer opened the box and it is not transferable (NB: in the Province of Quebec, Canada all warranties are transferable according to Consumer Protection Law). The final argument from Rotel importer now is unit was built in 2013 and is way out of warranty! As the RMB-1555 unveil was in April 2013 with summer 2013 availability I find this questionable. Especially since I can find some for sale with lower serial numbers.

If enough RMB-1555 (Black not Silver) owners provide their unit serial numbers and date of purchase I may be able to decipher the build dates.

I am only trying to get what I am owed from what I thought was a reputable company.

Maybe we should start a "serial number and purchase date" database to help future owners who may also be confronted with less than stellar business practices. Lets face it, providing information on sound quality, etc., is, in my opinion very useful and one of the primary reasons we read this web site, but all this pales if products are not reliable and/or sellers refuse to back their products.

Anyway and, regardless of the outcome, current and future Rotel owners beware !
