Rogue Owners Unite

Hello Rogue Owners. The goal of this thread is to let Rogue owners discuss the tubes they have tried in their amps/preams and discuss other tweeks that have been implemented with success. It would also be nice if you'd post your system components to help us compare notes.

Philojet, I would think so because most of the major parts are upgraded.... Give it a week or two to fully open up.
Bradz, with new tube equipment I usually give 2-4 weeks to fully open up. Please write a quick summary of your findings of the 99 :)
Two questions:
1-Can I change the gain setting on the Rogue Tempest Magnum?
2- If Yes then how?
Well I guess I should let you know what I've done over here.

I have the Rogue Magnum Tempest Integrated Amp. The Magnum version comes with all Electro-Harmonix tubes. I have changed the 12AX7's to NOS Mullard CV4004's and tried a QUAD of the NOS Phillips 12AU7's. My amp is still breaking in so it is hard to make a final decision on the NOS Phillips so soon. I do like the improvement that the NOS Mullards gave (was quite obvious). I also recently upgraded all my cables, which are still breaking in, so that is another variable. The first couple of weeks with this amp, the highs were quite edgy, but it has recently opened up. Can I bridge this integrated with a non Magnum version of the Rogue 88 Power amp?

David99, my power supply is humming a bit. But I don't want to be drilling holes into it because I think this would pretty much void my warranty and decrease resale value. It sounds quite good now and the hum is barely audible, so I think I can live without it. But if I decide to keep it for the long haul this might be an option. Can I do any other tweaks that aren't so invasive?
David, the power supply in the Tempest is not external. Does this apply to the Tempest power supply also?
I would think that the 6SN7's are GE. The Magnum 99 has upgraded NOS tubes and GE are more readily available 6SN7's for NOS.
Greg, I haven't been able to find the E80cc tube anywhere.
Is it available anywhere?
An update to my previous post on NOS tubes... I have replaced my new NOS tubes with the stock EH's that were in the Magnum Tempest when I got it. It just sounds right with the stock EH's in there. Maybe I'll have better luck next time with NOS tubes. I am thinking of upgrading to the Magnum M120's from the Magnum Tempest. Has anyone heard both side by side? What major improvements will occur? I will be connecting the Wadia 301 directly to the M120's so a pre isn't needed. THanks
Precbsed, have you tried the Rogue 99 pre? I hear it is much better than the 66. I am using the 66 Magnum right now and I love it.
Grandpad, thanks for your comment, it helped me get rid of the humming in my M120 Magnums.
I would try grounding only the pre and lifting the ground on all other components. Make sure at least one component is grounded or you'll get a shock. Once you've lifted the ground, you can also switch the 2 prongs and play with polarity.
I noticed another thing with the M120's. You have to use the exact same length or power cord for each side.
Axspike, have you talked to Mark at Rogue Audio. I'm almost certain he'd know which tube would work.
Hey Bradz,

I'm also curious. I don't want to bias your findings, but the 99 uses the 6SN7's octal tubes which are known to reduce grain and smooth things out. The 6SN7 is a much better tube than the small 12AX tubes IMO. Are you getting the Magnum version? Be sure to fill the Power supply with sand. The hole for the sand is done at the factory now, so it's OK to do it yourself if it's not there.
Bradz, some other guys on here have done the sand trick. Member "David99" is the guy you want to talk to. He sent me an email with detailed instructions but I lost it! Let me know how it works out.
Are any of you guys using the Magnum 99 pre? If yes, please give a short review of it. Thanks
