RIAA equalization

Seasons Greetings. Why is signal laid down on vinyl in such a way that it requires EQ for proper playback? Thanks.

For both LPs and tape, the highs are boosted in the recording process and cut in playback. The tape and LP-surface noise is thereby reduced hugely. .
