Rhodium vs Gold AC connectors

Hi dear fellows.Does anybody tried these type of connectors in power cords? In my case I don`t know which could be the differences in sound performances between them.I heard that rhodium connectors have more extended hights frequences , more airy and fluid than gold connectors, but also that they can produce a non-lively sound, with too much control.Regarding Gold connectors I red that they produce a warmer sound, specially in the mids, but with not so much detail as rhodium. Is it true?I will appreciate your comments to make a proper decision. Thanks in advance!Raf

Hi dear fellows!I`ve already tried rhodium connectors and in my system they don`t work very well.Is it true that they have more top cleaniless and extension, but basses are thighter and mids are retracted. For instance voices seems to sound like throught a compressor.Summarizinq they don`t have a relaxed listening at all.Originnally I have my power cable with wattgate brass connectors and even if they weren`t as detailed as rhodium, they had a much more musical, relaxed and pleasent listening. So I will try gold furutech connectors instead( Fi-11).My question is........Do you think Gold connectors will make a better work than the original brass connectors?I mean if they will sound even more musical, warmer, making prevale the mids and having more detail??...
Many thanks for your valuable comments!!Raf
Hi dear fellows.Just a correction about my last post.I wanted to say (It is true that they have more top cleaniless.. bla bla bla...) Any comments will be appreciated.Regards!Raf
Hi!I`ve red at the specs of F1-11-N1 (G) and the base metal of the conductors is phosphorous bronze, so according to what says Davehrab I am on the wright path.As this matter of choosing connectors is certainly system dependant, I will describe it: krell Kav 300 cd , ARC LS2BMK2 preamp. ARC D200 amp,Apogee Centaur speakers, Purist Maximus interconnects, Purist Aqueous speaker cables, Shunyata Hydra 4 power conditionner,Shunyata HC HVTX power cord, furutech fpx receptacle outlet; and the cable I want to change the connectors is a Purist Audio Design Musaeus that I use to connect the cd player to preamp. This cable originally came with the PAD connectors and as I said before, in my system did a good work( balance, soundstage, imaging etc etc).I hope this furutech Gold will make the change in the direction I want.I have the feeling that furutech products gives that transparency ,detail and soudstage that Sabai sais and preserving a relaxed listening at the same time.If it doesn`t work I will ask borrowed to a friend an Oyaide gold P079 and a C079 to see what happens.According to yours experiences... Which ones of these two connectors will make a better job in my system.??..Any guessing??Regards!Raf
Rja Yes,you are wright. It`s a matter of listening.Today I will receive the furutech gold connectors, I will assembly them and then I`ll have a conclusion.I hope they`ll fit well in my system. If not, I think I will return to the wattgate brass connectors that this cable originally had, and have a glass of good wine and just listen.Sometimes is a bit tiring trying to improve, you could make a step forward, aside or even worse... a step back.I`ll wright my conclusions after this trial. Thanks to everybody and keep in touch!Rafael
Dear fellows.Yesterday I assembled the PAD musaeus power cord with furutech FI-11-N1 gold.I must say that what really surprised me was the soundstage that generate these AC plugs. It`s just opened it to all my listening room( before with other plugs ,it was situated in the line of speakers and a bit behind)So it`s like being hearing with headphones and you have the experience to be IN the music and not In front of^Incredible!Regarding general performances, the voices sounds bigger, opened and velvety, strings with much more body, the bass has increased respect to Rhodium^s Furutech version and it is not as tight as it was( so for me, better).Details are present, not as overexposed as Rhodium makes ,but the neccesary to make a real, natural, pleasant listening(before with Rhodium I had a lot of these microinformation but unbalanced with the bass section, that was louder and tight and the mids that sounded like forced)So my conclusion is that (In my system) Furutech gold is the one I need.I`m sure that Rhodium`s plugs are excellents for other sistems.I hope this experience will be useful to others.Regards and many thanks for your comments! Keep in touch!Raf
Hello Audiolabyrinth, I use the Gold Furutech AC connectors in a Purist Audio Design Musaeus power cord to feed a Krell KAV 300 Cd player. My amp is a Solid state Audio Research D 200 that has its own factory power cable ( so no possibillity to put another power cord)and my preamp is an hybrid tube /FET stereo line stage Audio Research LS2BMK2 ,also with its own factory cable. All my sistem is connected to a Shunyata Hydra 4 power conditionner and this is connected to the Furutech fpx wall receptacle by a Shunyata HC HVTX power cord.I hope this helps!Regards!Rafael
Audiolabyrinth.Yes certainly! In my system sounds better than with rhodium connectors; I mean snare drums sounds precise, very fast, with all the modulations and vocals are opened, big, with throat sound and wet.I mean there is no struggle between this furutech Gold and the rest of the components and cabling in my system.I don`t know how is configurated your audio??is it tube or SS?I heard that Rhodium is suitable for tubes amps, but it depends. A friend of mine has a solid state Fortè amp and the rhodium connectors works very well in it.I Think that rhodium connectors and outlets loves high current( for instance if you read the above posts, many likes Furutech GTX-D (R) rhodium wall receptacle.May be rhodium works better in such conditions...Raf
Hi Audiolabyrinth. If you are not changing the connectors of the power cords but beginning changing the wall receptacles is a very good idea, because the audio system beggins in the receptacle.; and consenquently if you have a very good outlet, then you will be able to judge better other components of your equipment.I agree with you by choosing a Gold receptacle to connect the tube hybrid cd- player, because as you said your digital source has high resolution , so in my opinion, there`s no need to add more resolution by choosing rhodium receptacle. But who knows, testing is the best way.My guess is that if you chosse gold receptacle your system will work very equilibrated for sure,, besides furutech is a hight quality brand and makes products exclusively for audio Hi End. Rhodium could be a surprise . I haven`t tested rhodium receptacles, just Rodhium connectors. If you buy one of these, I will appreciate your comments about how it worked in your chain.P.D.If you have the possibility to make a power line exclusively for your audio, could be great because normally other equipments in the house, ( refrigerators, air conditionners etc) put noise in the line, that interfers with signals in audio, so one way to isolate this noise is to have a power line exclusevely for your audio with its own ground. There is a saying in audio that says ^Electricity is 50% of the sound^and it`s true.Regards!Raf
Audiolabyrinth. It is said that rhodium has more extention, more louder and more top ends, with airy High frequencies.May be is a good chance to make a try.As I said before I have not experimented with gold or rhodium outlets.I have my furutech FPX duplex outlet, which is made of pure cooper. It is the cheapest Furutech and works excellent in my system. So it`s up to tou.Very often in Hi End audio to reveal a curiosity you have to spend money, that`s the ugly part. What really helps in Hi end audio is ( if possible) to have a group of people that can lend each other some plugs, cables to make a test and to discover what really works or not in a determined system. That saves a lot of money, but not always is possible. If you buy rhodium or gold or another outlet, please make a comment to see how it worked.I wish you luck!Regards!Raf
Michelzay. It is so true what you say about how Rhodium connectors works excellent in LEDHD TV.Yesterday I lend my PAD Musaeus power cord with Furutech FI-11- N1 (R) Rhodium connectors to a friend. He put it to feed its Audioprism power conditionner replacing a Shunyata Copperhead with Oyaide P 079 gold connectors. As a result the imaging has improved in 3D,more depth, more definition and contrasts. So I arrived at the same conclusion, that Rhodium connectors are an excellent option for LEd Tv signal.I had the same cable in my audio system and it didn`t worked, middles sounded restrained (voices sounded like forced)and basses very tight. So I make a Musaeus power cord with Fi-11-N1 Gold connector and now it works as I wanted.Again that doesn`t mean that in another audio systems rhodium could perform more comfortably ,but in my system definitely not.Cheers and thanks for your comments.P.D:At the moment I`m in the break-in process of Gold connectors(as you see in my another thread)I`ll take my conclusion after 180 hours of use.Cheers!Raf.
Bol1972.Just a question for you.In which Purist Audio Design cable have you tested the Oyaide F50 and F1 connectors? Was it a Musaeus or Aqueous cable?Cheers.Raf
Michelzay. You`re welcome. Thanks for the info in the another thread.Regarding the Furutech FI-11-N1 gold is far better than the original wattgate brass connector( more openess in mids, higher resolution in hights ,but the bass section is not well defined yet.I suspect is a matter of break-in because it has improved a little in these days I`ve been listening. As I said I`ll write my conclusions after 200 hours(within two months)Hope this helps.Cheers.Raf
Hi fellows.Yesterday I took the F1-11-N1 gold connectors out and put the old wattgate brass connectors to see how it sounded before the changement, and I must say that the differences in sound performances are so evident. In wattgate brass connectors the voices and other instruments sounds like all toghether and mixed (not separetely as in Furutech gold) and there is no this sense of depth in soundstage. Also strings haven`t such resolution and body as in furutech G and there is not this silence between the sounds.
Speaking of F1-11-N1 G Voices sound very opened, velvety character and with the breathing sounds, all instruments separetely and wright, beautiful soundstage, bass section accurate ,so in a word presence is what you hear.I know this is not a fair comparison between wattgate brass ( the cheapest of the serie) and Furutech gold.I suppose that wattgate gold connectors are as good as Furutech`s gold ones, even if I never tried them.Anyway this is my experience and I hope it could be of help to others.Cheers!Raf
Hi Audiolabyrinth,
I answered your comment in the another thread(break in of Furutech AC connectors).I`m eager to read your impression´s here. It`s always very helpful.Cheers!Raf
Hi Audiolabyrinth.Very interesting your experience with both outlets.Very well described.I'll make that test walking behind the speakers when I'll test these outlets.Regarding your last question about the rhodium outlet and the watts it was submited to, I think that you should use it several hours in the krell in order to burn in it before making a final conclusion.Or at least burn the outlet in some device that consumes many watts if you don't want to suffer the breaking period. These Furutech products requiry audiophile's patience but in the end the wating worthwhile.CheersRaf
Hi Audiolabyrinth.
Are you sure you want to cut the original power cable of the Krell amp?Why don´t you try desoldering it an solder instead an excellent quality cable with a furutech iec termination, and there you plug your power cable? In doing so ,if it doesn´t have the result you are waiting for, then you can resold the original power cable of the Krell without altering their originality. It´s only an idea.Because I´m afraid that the krell fpb 700cx was designed and calculated to work with its original power cable. It´s a thought I have( may be I´am wrong)For instance I use my ARC D 200amp and my ARC Ls2Bmk2 preamp with their original power cords.I only use reterminated cable in my Krell kav 300 cd ,which has a iec termination in the chassis.Cheers.Raf
Hi Audiolabyrinth,
Thanks for your conclusions. They are very helpful.I´m glad to hear that in several krell power amps the stock power cord works better than the new ones.It may confirm the idea that some audio components were designed to work with their original power cords ( that´s why they don´t have a iec termination in the chassis). If your next test using rhodium outlet gtx d in the Krell toghether with the same outlet in the cd player will not work, then one possibility could be to use the cheapest model furutech fpx cu, which is made of phosphore bronze then plated with copper. In this way you will have the same base metals in the plug of the krell and the outlet. It could work very well and at the same time you could have the characteristics in performance of Furutech products. This fpx cu outlet is the one I use to feed my Shunyata Hydra 4 power conditionner were I plug all my components of my system with great result.Hope this helps.Cheers!Raf
Hi Audiolabyrinth,I think that if upgrading a male connector of the original power cord will ptoduce a benefit, then do it.However I'm not sure which male connector will fit better with outlet receptacle(I mean compatibility between them)I would define first the outlet that works better whith the Krell and after I would choose a male connector with the same base metal conductors in their pins.Ex.If you choose gtx d rhodium outlet which is made of pure copper then plated with rhodium, then I would choose a connector with pure copper as base metal and plated with rhodium as well.Cheers.Raf
hi Audiolabyrinth.
I would try FI 52 Rhodium instead of FI 50.A 20 amp plug should be more suitable for your amp.At least that's my impression.Cheers.Raf
Hi Audiolabyrinth, The issue is that this hobby is not only expensive, the problem is that maybe you buy the connector, spend $341.00 and imagine if the result is not as you expected??That`s why I suggested before to match the wall outlet with the base metal of the original Krell amp connector?May be with a basic Furutech fpx CU ( $ 66.00) you could have a good result and avoid spending 341.00 in a AC male connector.I suggested that because you mentioned that the amp sounded better with the copper wall outlet made in mexico.I am of the idea of not touching the original cables of equipments.I only changed the connectors of a PAD musaeus power cord ,after having emailed Jim Aud, the founder of Purist Audio Design. He told me that these Furutech FI 11 N1 g will work good on the cable. So I did it.Anyway if you want to take the risk and put the connector just do it.Who knows may be it will sound wonderful. Anyway the general rule in Hi End audio follows an asymptotic curve :in order to get a tiny step forward in sound performance you have to spend a huge quantity of money.Unfortunately hehe!Hope this helps.Cheers!Raf
Hy Audiolabyrinth. The best way to evacuate doubts is to try.In the case of testing gtx-d R I think is better that you cook it in the Krell. What could be a good test is trying the gtx-d R vs fpx cu to see what happens using the original´s krell male AC connector.I know that gtxd R has better isolation materials but on the other hand gtx-d R doesn`t have the same base metal conductors of your amp´s plug.So that`s why I insisted about making this try.Sometimes in Hi End audio you verify that cheaper hi end products could work better than higher ones IF they have more sinergy with equipments.Remember that your amp is from 2003?So may be it was designed to work with simpler outlets than the ones you see nowadays. But anyway if you see that with the rhodium outlet works far better than with your copper outlet made in mexico, then I don`t see the need of testing other outlets.Cheers.Raf
HI Audiolabyrinth.I didn`t know that the original plug was made of brass,I thought it was made of bronze.Anyway If someone elses has tested the gtx d R toghether with FI 50 R in a krell amp with succesful result, then I have nothng to say.Regarding my FI 11 n1 g connector it has reached the 200 hours so I consider it to be broken in.More transparencies appeared, better defined basses and bigger mids.Anyway I must say that most of the improvements came out when I dissambled the cable and cuted the soldered ends (they had a tin surface that made contact with the furutech clamps) I did that after consulting Jim Aud at Purist Audio Design´s custommer support because I suspected that these soldered ends could not make a proper transmission of electricity as the pure copper filaments of cable do.I must say that in the original wattgate connector these soldered ends didn´t make contact with the clamps due to its format. So I´m very happy with the result. Please tell us how improves your system with gtx d R.I Wish you luck in the break in process and of course I learn from you as well. Many thanks for your feed back! It´s allways useful.Cheers.Raf
Hi Audiolabyrinth.Congratulations!!Nice to hear you found the perfect outlet match for your system..Enjoy it!!Cheers.Raf.
Hi Audiolabyrinth.I red this wall frame its made of a special aluminium 13.0 mm thick that shields RFI..it also has a coating to isolate even further.According to what you say there's no doubt that this firm leaves nothing to chance.I am a fan of Furutech's products.I had a huge changement in my system only by changing a pair of connectors in a power cord.So chapeaux!!!Furutech is one of the leader companies in this field.I'm very happy indeed!!!Cheers.Raf
Hi Michelzay.
Very interesting what you have said about IeGo products regarding there low costs, differents base metals for conductors and the designers( ex Furutech`s).I`ll be very interested in reading your experience with these AC connectors. Also I`ll be very curious when you´ll try the silver conductors plated with gold or rhodium. It is very useful to know about other brands that makes high quality products with and affordable price, specially in this hobby that gets very expensive anytime you want some changement in the sound.I agree with you in that not all expensive products neccessary makes a relevant changement. So this brand is to be taken into account as well.Cheers!Raf
Hi Audiolabyrinth.
Interesting news about the 30amp breaker for your Krell 700cx power amp.Current is a crucial factor for any Hi End audio system.Have you looked this video about Greek audiophlies??I never forgot what one guy said.....^Electricity is 50% of the sound^Please take a look at it.Cheers.Raf

Hi Dear fellows.
So according to what Tbg was told at CES copper is the best conductor material for any outlet, connector etc etc and the plating is only the final touch that could give you either bigger mids, velvety character or higher resolution in the upper frequencies and dark background depending on your choice if gold or rhodium plating and of course the interaction with the components in each system.I think in future I `ll try a gtxd R.I`m a bit afraid that my system prefers gold versus rhodium( I have tried a FI 11 N 1 R connector in my Krell kav 300 cd player and it was a disaster as a result and I ended up with the gold version)So may be, as Michelzay said before, for feeding power conditionners rhodium is better than gold.So I think it will be my next try.Any other comments will be appreciated.Cheers!Raf
