Review: Boston Acoustics VR-40 Monitor

Category: Speakers

I LISTEN MOSTLY TO 80'S "SOFT ROCK" AND "METAL" THE BASS IS DETAILED NOT MUDDY.THE HIGH ARE A LITTLE BRIGHT THE FIRST 100 HOURS THEN BECAME MELLOW, JUST THE WAY I LIKE IT.I BEEN USING THE B.A. VR 40 FOR OVER TWO YEARS AND I LOVED IT..I JUST REPLACE IT WITH CAMBRIDGE SOUNDWORK NEWTON T500 WHICH IS A DIFFERENT KIND OF SPEAKER..THE T500 HAVE SILK DOME TWEETER WHICH I PERFERRED OVER ALLUM.TWEETER... THE VOCAL ON SILK DOME ARE SOFTER,,THE STRNGTHS ARE THE MID BASS(KICK DRUM ON MOTLEY CRUE"KICK START MY HEART"WAS INCREDABLE TIGHT AND ACCURATE..THE ONLY WEAKNESS I CAN THINK OF IS THE TWEETER BIT TOO BRIGHT..THIS IS A GREAT SPEAKER IF MONEY IS NOT AN OBJECT..

I purchased a pair of vr-40 speakers at a real decent price on closeout some years back. well i've gotta say i'm not an audiophile, the rest of my gear isn't totally high end, just yamaha separates, dspe-492 for center/rear and ax-596 for the fronts, with a vr-12 center, and vrs pros rears, i get a pretty good home theater experience, as far as listening to 2 channel, i'm sure if i had a better quality amp (not that i'm not happy with the ax-596), i'd get a better listening experience. I've gone to my local high-end shop, and well maybe my gear isn't top-of-the-line, but to me the difference isn't that much ,say compared to the vienna acoustics, so, i'm happy with my gear. In the high end audio game, there's always bigger , better, so, you just gotta know when to say when, for me, the vr-40 floorstanders are just right.
