Assuming you're talking about the DVD-Video format and not DVD-Audio (since you mention a picture), why can't you use the soundtrack output on the SPDIF digital outs? If it was recorded at 96khz and the disc has CPPM, the audio will be downsampled to 48 khz, but it should still be there.
