Radio in the Heartland WHHP 98.3 FM

I was visiting a customer at the U of I in UC. I was driving down from O'Hare. From around Kankakee to UC I found the absolute coolest radio station. 98.3 WHHP from Farmer City, IL. It played everything that is alt.country, bluegrass, celtic, blues, country rock, and some off the wall country that was definitely not Nashville style. Apparently it is broadcast from some guy's house in Farmer City(?). Some commercials (mostly the local Harley dealer) Heard everything from Tift Merritt to Casey Chambers to Uncle Tupelo to Robert Johnson to who knows what singer or group. First time in years that I was not changing channels on the radio. God I wish the east coast had something like this! Way to go Illinois!!!!!

I think that's WWHP the Whip.....and it is possibly the best radio station on the planet. It still sounds amazing.
One of the best stations, and who's format is very similar to WWHP, is WNCW (88.7) out of Spindale (Asheville area), NC. In an hour's time you could go through listening to Vassar Clemments to Hound Dog Taylor to Donna the Buffalo to Sonny Landreth to Solomon Burke to Billie Holiday to Chet Baker and believe it or not, musically it works. One more thing, you can also listen to WNCW in

Boone, NC at 92.9, Charlotte, NC at 100.3 and Greenville, SC at 97.3.
