Question Re HDCD in DBPowerAmp

I've read a number of mostly older threads on the use of DBPowerAmp.  A couple of very long threads deal with which HDCD offerings had extended range and which didn't.  Short of having a database, very long threads are pretty useless.

As far as I can tell when decoding HDCD there is no harm in using HDCD and checking the +6DB box.  This way when an HDCD is encoded with an extended range it will properly expand to 20 bits in a 24 bit file and when an HDCD is not encoded for extended range, the only penalty is that playback is 6dB louder than other CDs.  Also, when Blue Book CDs are decoded neither HDCD, nor +6dB DSP is used.

Is this the correct interpretation, or is there another reason to agonize with each CD as to if the +6dB box should be checked?

Since +6dB can result in clipping, I have ripped with and without +6db>

Can someone tell me why the HDCD DSP +6dB FLAC files are smaller than the HDCD DSP applied, but +6dB not applied files?
