This vintage Sony DAC sounds very good;
Yes it was and still is highly regarded for converting PCM Redbook 16/44, it was an R2R Ladder Multibit dac that uses the "K" selected 2 x PCM53JP-I-K dac chips. But it’s probably due (30 years old) for it’s 20 odd electrolytic capacitors to be changed by now, and will sound better for it.
I’m not into streaming as I’ve yet to hear it’s sound better than my CD/Transport fed MSB discrete R2R dac.
And I think that’s because it’s either compressed, or they use the "later re-releases" of music that I like, which if you go the the Dynamic Range Data website they are nearly always more compressed than the original first release versions.
Sure the later releases are always much louder but more confused because of compression (no quite parts, between the loud ones)
